5" magnaflow exhaust

I have been reading some posts on different types of exhausts and their sizes. I currently have the magnaflow xl full 5" exhaust with no cat. I was debating on whether or not to get a chip and decided against it. My question is that I have heard some people say that you lose a little low end torque with a 5 " exhaust as opposed to a 4. The truck feels fine to me and the throttle response seems to be better than stock. Of course I have an intake so I assume that helps but is this true about losing torque. I am contemplating going back to a 4 inch. Any ideas? Thanks

Why are you considering taking it off? Is it too loud? I have my cat in place and a short magnaflow muffler intstalled with factory 4" downpipe and tailpipe. I don't think its too loud but the tone seems wrong, just to much drone so I've been considering going to the 5" magnaflow with out a cat. The price seems fair to me for the system.

Hi gatf4,

How short a Magnaflow do you got? I'm thinking about keeping my cat and installing a 30 inch long body Magnaflow. Any help you can give me to understand how your set-up has too much drone (when and how much) is much appreciated.

Thanks!

I have the stock system with a 5" tip from Genos garage. I replaced the stock muffler with the straight pipe kit from Genos, but I kept the cat on. After about three months I wussed out and put the shortest, I think 18", muffler in the Geno's straight pipe. It was just too loud for me,without the muffler, during regular stop and go driving. Idle it was fine, Full throttle it was fine, but on medium accelleration it just had to much drone in the cab. With the muffler it really took the edge off the drone but it still is medium loud. I've had the muffler on for about 8 months now and I don't really pay to much attention to it. I've thought about the 5" system with no CAt(for off road use only) becuase I've heard some Fords with the 5" and they sound really cool. You can really hear the turbo whistle through the exhaust.

67charger,
I have the 30" Magnaflow on mine with the converter still in place, not loud at all, just slightly louder than stock, no drone, not even towing, I really like it. had a straight pipe on my 04, it was o.k. around town, but highway or towing was just too much
