Question 5'' exhaust

Going to put on a 5'' exhaust. I am thinking of going with the aluminized system from City muffler. Any body have that system? Can anyone else tell me of other systems in that price range, without breaking site rules? Some pm.s would be helpful. Probably will order something 4-8-05.

if you're not making big power, I'd just put a nice 5-6" tip on your current system...

I've got a City Muffler 5" system on my truck, and I love it, but my buddy put one on his 04.5 and he HATED it... even with the muffler and an additional resonator it drove him nuts... said it resonated so bad it would rattle the change in his ashtray.

he's currently running a straight piped factory 4" system, and he couldn't be happier.

I love mine, but I have done a lot to handle the resonance. I will admit that when I first put it on, it was PAINFUL at some speeds!

Well I could look at a 4'' system. I dont know if it would help much over the stock + 4'' straight through glass pack I have. Any opinions? I am not making big power. Just wanted better sound and lower egt s. Money may be better spent on coating the rocker panels for rock chip protection. (rhino ) Wife says I can spend the money. Gotta make hay when the sun is shining.

With EZ level power, there is no benefit to 5" over 4". it will just be noisier and its possible that you may actually loose a bit in performance. forrest is right. stick with 4"

The benefits of 4" over stock are very small but for EZ level power I think it is appropriate. it will sound better and you may notice slightly better spool-up. esp for the stock turbo you need all the help you can get for EGTs. that means intake and 4" exhaust, and you'll still have to watch the pyrometer.

The benfit of 4" exhaust itself is actually very small. The beneifts of an upgraded intake are small but mesureable. Some are able to measure EGT improvements and some are not, primarily because the real limitation is the stock turbocharger. once you are committed to staying with the stock 'charger, then you have to surround it with whatever you can to mitigate the high-egt risk that will certainly occur. The best way to do that is exhaust and intake, and stay at or below 65 or so horsepower gain at the rear wheels.

Nope 3 and a half. 4'' tailpipe. The 600's are 4'' all the way . . I think.

03-04s are 3.5 up to and including the muff. Even the cast elbow goes from 4" at the pinwheel to 3.5" at the downpipe. only the tail pipe section is 4", expanding from 3.5 to 4" right after the muffler. 04.5 up are 4" from pinwheel to tip.

I bought and installed the 5" Flo Pro system from City Muffler. Very easy install. Did it myself in the driveway. I also got the Silver line 6" tip. I did have to weld the tip on cause I had to modify it for 5" diameter. Took about 2 hrs total install. Very nice sound. No in cab drone. I really like it.
I'll find out how City is about reyurn items today. I am sending back the Banks High Ram intake. Have read many comments that it does not do anything and is a wast of money.

I have the Magnaflow 4inch turbo back system and I love it. most people on this site dont really like the Magnaflow but, mine is exactly what I wanted and to be honest with you I think it is a little too quiet (personal taste) - I got it for really cheap (dont want to break any rules) - about same price as most aluminized systems but, mine is stainless, although not the highest grade of stainless. In my opinion it flows awesome and everything I read said if you are not making over 500 hp (which I along with a lot of us are not) you do not need a 5inch exhaust

I wouldn't do the 5" if I had to do it over. Don't get me wrong, I love it when I see some guy bending over in a parking lot and taking a peek and realizing it is not just a 5" tip, and seeing his reaction. Bad drone on highway, sound great to me in town. I'm going to use the straight pipe section the kit came with this summer to see how I like it. A nice 4" will be your highway friend.
