5.9 Fuel Mileage Help Needed

Running Hot Shot with a 2006 Dodge Ram 5.9 Cummins,4x4,6 speed tranny,Running a Bullydog Programer set to performance (seems towing does about the same as far as fuel mileage). And a K&N Cold air intake system. We Pull a gooseneck 40ft flatbed and tow up to 28k (thats trailer and loaded weight) seem to be getting {10 to 11mpg} pulling just the 8k trailer unloaded and seem to get about 7 to 8 mpg fully loaded.
Does this seem right and if so are there any good ideas about setting this truck up to get best fuel mileage under these loads?
the truck seem to get better mileage till about amonth ago it had to be sent to the dealer to get injecter work done.
any sugestions would be nice.

That is about what you should be seeing towing those kinds of weights with your truck.

Most of these trucks are getting close to 15mpg empty.

The very best my '06 got was 18.3 IIRC. That was at 70mph and 3.73 gears. That was with the Bullydog on economy.

For what your towing, it does not sound too bad. Speed kills MPG and time is money, so you will have to find the balance.

Are you getting 7 to 8 mpg with an 8,000 lb trailer?
