48re Question - Shafts

Here are what my mods will be when I'm done (by Jan.)

HTT 64/65/13SS
ATS Exhaust Manifold
PureFlow Air Dog 150
TS Performance MP-8
F1 Flux 1/40HP Injectors
S&B Cold Air Intake
Edge Juice w/Attitude - Hot Unlock
Donaldson Muffler / No CAT
Goerend Torque Converter
Goerend Valve Body
DTT Flex Plate
Sonnax 1 Piece Billet Input Shaft
Mag-Hytec Trans. Pan

My guess is that I will be running around 500 HP. The transmission will be out to do the input shaft, flex plate, valve body, etc. With around 500 HP would it be nessasary to install an output shaft? With all of these mods I'm kinda tapped out. I tow sometimes, not a lot, and I don't go to the track(yet). It's all really just for playing around.

As I understand it, the 2wd outshafts are doing fine. You will get tire spin before it breaks.

Ok, just talked to Dave Goerend and they do not offer an output shaft for the 2WD. He said the stock one does real well.

Thats the plus side to us 2wd except the whole tires spinning thing if trying to do a boosted launch..Thats why i dont do them anymore doesn't help at all..I'm building up parts at the house and one day ill put them in when this tranny dies, which doesnt seem like its gonna be anytime soon even with smarty on #3 50hp on the powerpuck, however I slipped 3rd twice so far at 19000miles.

WOW!!! That's pretty lucky.

On the street, I tried a 10psi launch (it's diff. on a prepped track) and just smoked the tires for a least 4 blocks. Was playing around and showing off to a friend, he's been in a duramax (modded to some degree) and said my truck would just blow the doors off it hands down. Then I did a 3psi launch with no slippage, just pulled like a mother****** and my friends jaw dropped, eyes big and started to druel.

ATS also stated that the stock output was a very strong piece.

I can vouch for Omaharam. He just took me for a spin Saturday in that thing and did a 20 psi launch in 4X4 and it just threw you back in the seat and you were gone. Very impressive. Mike, Someday when we have more time I will have to take you out for lunch or something for showing me that truck of yours. After that ride I am really bugging the wife to let me spend some more money on mine.

Your truck is 2WD like mine, his is 4WD. 4WD trucks can launch in 4WD so you don't get tire spin like we do.

From my understanding if doing Boosted Launches the Intermediate shaft is an important replacement...more so than the output shaft. Mainly because of the damage that can be done if it breaks, whereas the Output shaft is an easy replacement (in relation to the intermediate). AND since you already have it most of the way apart, the intermediate is cheaper in the long run to replace at the same time as you have the tranny out and already apart. The output shaft can be changed without pulling the tranny out of the truck.
I have a 4wd but I would think the same would hold true.
