325/65R18 - Best advice for a full size spare tire?

From what I have heard, a 325/65R18 will not fit in the stock location on a 2004 2500 Ram, correct?

Has anyone tried this? If so, what's in the way and where does it hit? Can it be modified to fit?

I'd like to purchase a full size spare, but do not want to have it laying or mounted in the bed of my truck (I use the bed often when fishing/working/etc.)

Any ideas/advice?

Worst case, should I need the spare prior to purchasing a full size tire, what should I do? Should I install it on the front? Rear? Probably the front I would assume (this is a 4wd truck, btw).

I am on the beaches a LOT, and there is always debris and what not - so eventually I'll need a spare. The beaches are 60miles long, and another 20+ miles from a local tire shop, that may or MAY NOT stock my size should I need a new one. Not to mention the 190miles I drive to get to the beach and back, usually at night..

Trying to be prepared.

Thanks
Shawn

Im not sure, since I havent tried it...
If you have some free time, yank a wheel and toss it up, see where it hits, my guess is it pretty close to the exhaust, might be too close to the trailer hitch as well....

Not sure what ill do either, when I step up to some larger tires...

I have a 35" Toyo MT tucked up underneath, no problems at all.

Awesome,

Thanks for the info - I was told by several tire people that it would not fit...so I didn't buy a 5th tire when I bought the ones that are on it. Go figure...you'd think that they would try to sell me one regardless of whether it fit or not!

Sometimes you have to try for yourself. The tire shop told me when I had my Toyos mounted that they would rub so bad they were worried about the bumper ripping off . And when I had my Titan they told me I needed at least a 6" lift to run 315's. Wrong again!

Essentially a 34.6x" diameter tire. My 315/70R/17(34.4" diameter) fits ok.

For me to be able to fit an exact sized spare under my truck, I would need an 18" wheel for the spare. Short of buying another MB Motoring wheel, where could I find a plain jane steel wheel with a functioning offset/lug pattern, in 18", that I could use? I don't know if I'll be able to find one...may just have to get another wheel also.

Either that, or could I just buy a 315/70R17 (close to same height as 325/65R18), and put it on my current spare wheel? I would think that the small difference in size wouldn't hurt my differentials too much until I could get my tire repaired...opinions?

Thanks

If cost is a concern I would get a 315 and mount it up to the factory spare
wheel , the difference between the two tire size is minimal.

Get the 315 and stick it on the steel wheel. Cheapest way to go.

That minor size difference will be fine to get you back to the tire shop if a flat happenens.

Where are you located?? I have 3 BFG 315s in the garage with various levels of use. They are all viable spares, one of the 4 I bought used is my spare.

I'm in Cibolo, TX (Northeast San Antonio)

What part of Houston are you in and how much would you take for one?

I've got a friend who works for the HFD, and commutes between Houston and San Antonio frequently...he'd probably snag it for me and bring it over.
