3.9 ISB hop-up advice needed

I have a 2005 ISB170 3.9L CR Cummins that I am putting in a custom truck. I would like to pump it up to around 250-300 h.p. What are my options regarding fuel mods that are compatible with a generic (non-Dodge) Cummins ECU? Am I limited to fuel injectors and "puck-like" devices?

Maybe something like an EZ. You could toss some injectors at it.

can you give a little more info on the engine. Do you have the CPL and ECM part number? There are a couple of Cummins tunes north of 200hp for the ISBe3.9 that will get you started.

I'll have to get the CPL numbers off the engine -- it's currently at a friends house. I thought 170hp was the limit for the ISB from Cummins. I don't believe it is an ISBe, as it came from a Frito Lay (Workhorse chassis) truck.

How/where would one get a different program from Cummins?

If you have a Cummins shop around you that is cool they can call and get a password to change the ECM programming to a different CPL like a marine engine. I can tell you that it is going to take some buttering up because it is a PITA.

Personally I would put money into a pressure box like a MP-8 or a puck and some sticks. Maybe the DIY CP3 mod and a turbo off a 5.9 to cool things down. If the injectors are different from the 5.9's you could get the nozzles honed from gethoned.com, he does custom projects. I believe with some added pressure and honed nozzles w/ bigger turbo 250-300 should be pretty easy.

Thanks for all the advice! I'm guessing the injectors are identical to the 5.9 but I could be wrong. I am building a custom turbo starting with a BW S-200 with a SS turbine from Bullseye. I think it should be good for 300+ hp. I've looked for ISB4 marine applications, but I haven't found anything -- it appears they're still using the 4BT for that application.

I would just run a turbo off an 03-04 common rail. An 04.5 turbo might be too big.

There is a guy on compd that has a tube framed race truck with a 4BT thats pretty quick.

I am planning this swap to a 54 Dodge 2WD I have eventually. So far the best local deal I have found on one of these motors is $1600 used no guarantees high mileage frito lay motor less tranny. So Im kinda gonna hold out and see what else I can find.

There was an article in Diesel Power a year or two ago about a Jeep that had a stock one that was gettin 35-40mpg I think.
