'06 Remote starter
'06 Remote starter
Ive had a remote starter sitting around that was for my old truck and i never put it on. So I thought id dig it out and see if it would work on my truck. Turns out of course it won't without a bunch of relays and resistors and such. So im abondoning the idea of trying to get the right stuff to make it work. I already have factory keyless entry and I don't want an alarm. I simply want strictly remote start with nothing fancy except good range and a delay for the heaters. Im thinking about the Mopar starter and was wondering if anyone has added one themselves and how hard the install is. I really don't want to let the dealer install it and would probably only go with the Mopar if I could do it myself. Otherwise I will probably go aftermarket but still would rather do it myself. Any comments would be great. I did search the topic and got a lot of good info but the '06 issue wasn't addressed much. Thanks.
Go with an Astrostart unit and a proper security bypass kit (chdl7pk2). That will be the easiest thing for you to install. The biggest problems with them is the bypass issues. PM me if you need a price on a unit c/w bypass kit pre-wired and install instructions c/w pictures.
Dont do the factory dodge unit, my gf had one on her Jeep,, what a POS. Never worked right. I put a viper on her new Commander, seems ok so far. I have the Astrostart on my truck, been good for 3 years now. I wish I would have found mine for that price ram, if you can get it for that I would say that is the way to go.

I have a Mopar unit on my truck and it works very well. The farthest I have used it to start truck was at a sled pull this summer from at my best guess was 350yds away from me you couldn't hear the horn honk but I could see the lights it did start the truck. It has a 30 sec. delay which at times seems to long but ittakes longer than 30 sec. to get to my truck after work when i hit the button to start it. So its usually running when I get to it.
