06 In-Dash Gauge Mount w/Pics!

Installed a SPA dual FP/tranny temp gauge in-dash using one of the cubby holes...

Originally I wanted to put it on the driver side and move the 4wd controller over to the passenger side, but the wires were too short and the gear shift lever completely blocks your view of that area when in Drive. I got the universal gauge mount from Geno's and first tried gluing it on from the back without using the cubby hole (that part unscrews from the back and leaves a square hole). I guess ABS plastic and Super Glue don't go so well together because it stained the black plastic white and needless to say that looked awful. Then I figured out that the plastic gauge mount was exactly the right width to slide in between the dash bezel and cubby hole insert thingy. I had to trim the bottom lip so the gauge bezel would fit and hacked up the back for the wiring and mount but it worked. If you look closely you can see the program/recall button mounted sideways inside the main cubby (in the first pic).

All in all I think it turned out pretty well. Honestly if I had to do it again I might not bother with all the trouble though.

Nicely done. And you're head unit is the exact same setup i plan on using right down to the factory Navi dash bezel.

Mark - Yeah, it does feel kinda far away. It's just a regular fuel pressure and tranny temp gauge...no rail pressure unfortunately. I figured those parameters don't need to be monitored as frequently as EGT and boost so having it over there isn't too bad. The SPA's have programmable under pressure/over temp alarms with a flashing light and a minimum pressure/max temp recall feature so even if you miss seeing it you can always find out what it was later. I've found the recall feature on my other SPA gauge to be really handy for seeing the true max EGT/boost.

The SPA's run from $240 - $400 depending on the parameters. The FP/temp gauge was $240 and EGT/boost was close to $400. I don't think that's too bad considering you're getting two gauges with all those features and the accuracy is supposed to be as good as it gets. There's a test report floating around that someone did where they compared all the major EGT gauges and tested their response times. The Autometer, Isspro, and Dipricol gauges all took 30-40 seconds to reach actual temps. The SPA took around 17 seconds IIRC.

Boz007 - Thanks man. I have no doubts you'll love the Z1/2!
