I just bought a 04 dodge cummins 6 speed. It has a build date of 10/03, I see alot of trucks on here say 04.5 just wanting to know the difference between them and mine? Also how do you know if you have an H.O. or S.O like in the second gens? Also heard ALOT about smarty, just wonderin what if would do on my truck and what kinda power does it add? I recently borrowed my buddies tripple dog with crazy larry and really didnt impress me any, barley any smoke , and little more power. Maybe you guys can help me out thanks ALOT!!!!

 

The '04 had two engine available. The 235/460 CARB engine and the 305/555 HO engine. Look on the drivers side valve cover for a white sticker for engine ID [235 or 305]. The '04.5 was the 325/600 engine.

ok yea mine does say 305. What is the carb engine,? My brother's old 2001 has more power than that. I see everyone has the 04.5 ,is that because it just has more H.P and torque or reacts better to boxes and programmers? I'm lookin for a good box, and programmer for my truck, I don't do much towing just alota playin!! THANKS

 

04 is one of the best, no cat and gets some of the best fuel economy

Whitelightin, Look at the thread on "best programer for 03" in this forum. 03 and 04 are the same engine.
