03 with high rail pressure?

I recently made a long distance purchase, a low mile 03 6spd. When I picked it up it was warm so it ran nice. After letting it sit over nite it started poorly ( i.e.long cranking). The more I drove it the more I noticed the throttle having a long hang time.I think I might have 2 problems ,an unkown pressure box?, and maybe a couple bad injectors.BTW i'm the third owner now the previous owner claims he doesn't know about any mods except the Air Dog,and i noticed 2 velcro strips on the fuse box...hmmm? Are there any suggestions as how to figure out who's programmer/pr box? Will high pressure crack inj. bodies

Velcro strips on the fuse box almost always mean a box, likely an Edge EZ which is a pressure box.

If you crack a body it will make oil noticeably and not start period. Some hang in throttle drop is normal, its the way the system works. Excessive time and stepped drop back to idle is usually an injector problem.

From the sounds of it you may have some worn injectors. Injector return flow test and cylinder contribution readings would be my next step.

If and when I change out injectors, are the Bosch stainless steel ones far superior to warrant the cost of them.BTW the lag in throttle deceleration response is way more notieable than my 04 6spd

You don't have a lot of choices on the bodies anymore as all new bodies are the upgraded metallurgy and have been for a couple years. They were not really a SS body, only higher quality steel.

New Bosch injectors should be updated bodies. Even some of the remans could be.

Do you think the pr. box has has/had anything to do with the injectors early demise? If the box is not on the truck any more do I have to worry about it? I got a smarty jr. I 'd like to try

Its a good bet a pressure box contributed to injector wear. Since its not there anymore its not a factor. You can use your Smarty. You could use a Smarty with a pressure box anyway.

What you have to worry about is the potential damage from pressure. That will almost always show in the injectors.

Another thin you can do is pull the cross over tubes, check them for damage or etching on the tips then reset and retorque them to spec. A loose connector tube will cause long cranks, possibly even cause overfueling by FCA trying to maintain rail pressure. That may contribute to the throttle hang.

A sticky FCA can also emulate all the conditions you described. Sounds like you have some diagnosing and checking to do to isolate the problems if any.

How many miles on the truck?

FCA is $116 plus shipping at Genos Garage. Around $150 at Cummins, way too much at dealer.

Alternately, you could try a heavy dose of Power Service and MMO then drive the snot out of it for a couple days to see if that makes a difference.

I mix 96 oz of Power Service with 32 ozs of MMO 2 stroke oil and add 10-12 ozs of mix per half tank fill. A heavy dose would be 30 ozs in a full tank.
