03 ECM program questions 250hp eng

I recently bought a 3rd gen its an 03, with the 250hp engine, I've read that the only real difference between this eng and the 04 is that the ecm has a different program.

so I'd like to know if thats true, and whats required to change it, just swap out with an 04 or is it a dealer re-flash.

also does the 04 (not 04.5) have the hi-idle option?

also read that any programmer will bump the programming upto a 305hp BEFORE it adds the additional hp...is this true?

further I already have an edge ez (3posn switch), if I get a diablo (trinity) can it be stacked with the ez so I can change hp settings on the fly? or if it cannot is there any programmer that will stack with ez

I know its lots of questions, I've spent a couple hours reading and digging thru posts, but only finding little snippets of info.

thanks

I'm also going to post this on other diesel sites as well

I know the Smarty will bring the SO to the HO power level. Not sure on the Diablo.

The EZ stacks fine with timing/duration programmers/modules. Make sure that the other unit/programmer doesn't do pressure also (or have a stock pressure setting like the Smarty).

It depends when your '03 was built. If it's a late '03 model it might have the updated ECM with the high idle firmware.

So your truck will not have the CC high idle feature. Join the club....

My 10-02 305 can't do hi idle or R&P ratio. I really like my DS Predator but nobody there can say what each tune does iaw press. timing and duration. The econ/perf tune adds 100 hp and I think that means 100 hp to the ground no matter what the stock level is. I got the Predator cuz I already had gauges and didn't want to buy any more. If I didn't already have gauges I was going to get the TST PMCR for the change on the fly and no added pressure. I don't get too daring with my only vehicle and DD. I think the Pred 100hp is fairly safe for any stocker cuz it does some tq. limiting at the low end. Craig

There are hard part differences between SO and HO engines, not just the programming. The ECU capabilities are also different across the years

You can't just swap ECU's between years. They have to be in the range that is coded for your truck.

Not neccessarily true, a Smarty will do that. Don't think all of them will.

Yes, 04's have the idle up option on some of the them. All the 04's are capable with a flash. The 03's on the other hand are hit or miss if it will activate correctly once the ECU has been changed and\or updated. It seems to depend on the type of CC used. Actually all these engines back to 98.5 have the idle up feature enable and available in the ECU under the PTO option. IIRC, the Bull Dog TD has the PTO option that allows idle up to 1800 rpms just by plugging into the data port. Not sure about the Power Pup.

All the CR's have high idle functionality that will automatically idle the engine up to 1000 rpms when intake temp is below 35 degrees. The idle up thru the CC is the bugger to get to work on the older trucks becuase of its dependencies. The Dodge OS's have the feature in it for the 03's but it requires some other things to make it work.
