Question Why no 3.73 axle for 2008?

I have been on the Dodge website and they do not have the 3.73 rear axle for 2008 as an option. They only have the 4.10 available with the 6 speed auto trans. The 2007 auto trans has both as options. What gives???

Welcome MikeyD. The chassis cab 6 speed auto can only come with 4.10. The pickup trucks can have the 6 speed auto with 3.73 or 4.10. Probably just a problem with there web site (since my dealer has a 08 3500 6 speed auto 3.73 ).

Yep, the 4.10's are the only gears availible with the cab and chassis models. I test drove an '08 with the 6 speed auto, 3.73 gears and 6.7l a few weeks ago.

Actually, it appears 3.42 is standard, but 3.73 comes with the 68RFE Trans.

Looks like I will have to check this out at the dealer. As Dodge Man says - they may have a problem with the website. I was looking at both the 2007 and 2008 2500's on the website. The 2007 2500 had the option for both 3.73 and 4.10 for the six speed 68RFE. The 2008 2500 said the 3.73 is N/A. You can only check the 4.10 box. I really don't want a 4.10 again - too many rpm's.

BTW, on the 68RFE. Is this the Japanese transmission made by Aisin? How is it holding up? Is it as good as the Allison? Any feedback on how good, how smooth, how strong, how jerky, or problems will be helpful.

The Aisin is not the 68RFE...

Your right I just built the truck I ordered and it shows no 3.73 with the auto. must be a glitch because I ordered my 08 with 3.73. I'll let you know next week what I got, I'm picking her up Monday

The Aisin is the 6 speed auto used in the Cab & Chassis rigs, not in the 2500 or 3500 pickups. That unit is the 68RE, which was designed jointly with Mercedes and built by Dodge. So far, they seem to be holding up well and speaking personally, I think they work great. When you use tow/haul mode with the exhaust brake it's outstanding.

You might want to rethink that. The 68RFE with 4.10's has a higher effective final drive ratio than the 48RE with 3.73's.

Just took delivery of my 2008 SRW Mega Cab 4X4 on 10/03/07. It most
definitely has a 3.73 with the 68RFE auto. At 70 MPH it tachs 1750 RPM
in 6 OD. I can't begin to tell you how much fun it is with the electronic
shifter on the gear shift....all the comfort of an automatic trans with the
versility of a stick....and the EXHAUST BRAKE is icing on the cake.....I can't
quit smiling.

Off topic, but since it looks like the 3.73 is available...

Gear selector is great for keeping it from shifting to a higher gear, but it won't stop it from shifting down when you want it to stay in the gear that you have selected.... The EB will cause the trans to keep dropping gears if you don't feather the gas just right on downhill grades (in T/H).... hoping someone comes up with a software upgrade.
