Whats the hicup????

I have been Black Tec'd for several months and the truck is running great. I do have a hicup or cough which happens right after I let off the throttle. Anyone know what this is?? I tried holding it's breath and scaring it, to no avail.

I have the same "hicup". (I have the california deletes with the smarty jr) For me, it only happens right at about 20 to 23 mph with the engine brake on. It seems like the torque converter is locking to slow the truck down and the engine brake kicks in. You can hear the engine speed up slightly while its engaging the engine brake. I've actually had it hicup 2 or 3 times before it finally smartens up. Not sure what the issue is, but I've learned to drive around it. I don't have the latest J35 flash or the latest flash from MADS either. I also have not told them about this.

Not complaining, but I sure love that 6.7 now that it can breath!!!!

Is Blk Tec not the removal of all exhaust from the turbo back, and removal of the egr, and cooler? If not, my mistake. Maybe, I'm just Grey, somewhere between blu and blk. Klx650, you've described it very well, mine does it at all speeds, and is more notable with the e-brake on. I have the J35 flash and updated the Jr. to 23me. Hope it's not something serious as the truck performs very well.

No, I dont think its serious.

Mine used to stumble on startup with the Edge.

Still will gasp ( best way I can describe it) when using the exhaust brake at times. Its like its confused and doesnt know if it wants to inhale or exhale and chokes for a second.

Havent seen any ill effects from it.

My 2007.5 did the same thing about an hour ago (as well as many times before), and I just had it serviced and flashed earlier today. I have found just turning off the engine brake at slow speeds eliminates this problem. They did the newest flash when they performed the maintenance, and no problems as of yet other than the afore mentioned hiccup......I kicked and screamed when they said they were going to flash it, they did it anyway

I had the cali delete on a 07 6.7 with smarty me and it would hicup on the highway just as you started up a slight incline. Seemed to be getting worse with time. I had to go back to DPF for some warranty work and the hicup went away. I am about to change back but i'm a little worried about this as it was getting worse. Seemed to be a little better if i used the tow mode. This was with out the E brake on. Does anyone know if the full delete instead of the cali delete might help????

Sorry if I do this wrong, my first post and all. My truck does the same thing. What I can tell you is the exhaust has been modified to the 5", DPF and catalytic converter are gone. NOW as in today, I started getting a message saying DPF FULL. EGR is still there, currently unplugged. It seems to my untrained eyes that the only thing that has been modified is the exhaust. My understanding is a tuner will resolve most of my issues. Is this correct, and what should I be expecting to spend on one as I don't have a lot of change sitting around since I have new payments and shelled out most of my funds for a truck that ran GREAT when I got it? How much of a rush do I need to be in to get these resolved, and what has priority? Thank you. BTW, my truck is an 09 3500 4x4 if that make a difference with anything.

Welcome to the DTR! how long have you owned the truck? does the pipe have any bungs to hook the DPF pressure sensors to? just trying to figure out what was done to remove it and how best to advise.....
if the EGR is unplugged then a tuner would have been needed to keep it from throwing a check engine light

I have owned the truck roughly 5 months. It ran GREAT for almost 3,000 miles then started acting up. I was told it won't hurt anything acting like this, but, I don't like it. I tried plugging the EGR back in but that seems to make no difference. When I had it in the shop to get it looked at, there were no codes showing and it ran fine while hooked up for diagnostics. I am trying to come up with a book to see what I should be looking for as far as fittings, sensors, etc., to have a better idea of what I'm dealing with. I'm kind of learning as I go with this truck as it is the first Dodge Diesel I have owned. According to the mechanic that looked at my truck and told me what was missing, he said it should have 2 O2 sensors if I understood correctly, and it now has only one. Beyond that, I don't know much about what or where I should be looking. I am going to be crawling under it tomorrow to see what I can see, and taking pics in the process. I noticed a couple bare wires that I want to get resolved. Had I known when I bought it what I know now, it would have either been a LOT cheaper, or I wouldn't own it. Don't take that wrong, I do love the truck, nicest one I've ever owned. I just wish it still ran like it did when I bought it. I need to see if I can find any pics of the sensor(s) that should or should not be in place.

I crawled under the truck this morning and there are only two sensors, and ports for sensors on the exhaust. One is about even with the output shaft on the transfer case, the other would be about even with the back seats(mega-cab if that helps). The front one is wire connection and plugged in. The back one is wire connection not connected to anything. I have a pic of each, just not sure how to go about posting them. It looks like a hack job on the back one, it has crimp connections on it.
