What Temperature?

I see from 180 up to 210 quite a bit towing or not. 6,000 miles. Anyone else?

From what I understand the stock guage is NOT a real temperature reading but an algorithym as calculated by the computer. However, I believe you're OK as I see those readings on mine when I'm towing too. Well within the safe range, especially with the AC on and towing in hot weather.

that would stand to reason since, unless the insight differs from the juice w/attitude and has a probe that is installed on the radiator taking real-time temperature measurements, it is getting the readings from the ECM the same as the stock gauge and would be reading the same supposed alogorithm GMScott has mentioned.

On my 5.9 the stock cluster reads a bit warmer than the OBDII puts out.. On a normal towing day I will see 207-211.. Yesterday I say 218, but I had partial radiator blockage.

I thought the temp gauge was real time, but the oil pressure was a fake guage.

Towing over the Donner Pass In california this weekend I was hitting the hi temp setpoint on my Edge at 220. The gauge was reading just right of center bu nowhere near the red. I had the edge set at 212 but was hitting that quite a bit so went up to 220. Hottest I saw was about 224 and that was with 2 quads on the rear and a 9K trailer. Donner is kinda a big long pass too

210 is good every now and then. Some would say ideal, because it boils or steams off any water in your oil. I don't think you have anything to worry about, keep on pullin.

My thoughts exactly!! I haven't checked the temps with the Insight as that would be redundant since the Insight in connected to the OBD II port. I haven't had the time to learn all the Insight's specs but assumed the water temp reading from the Insight would be the same as the "idiot" guage.

That was my impression as well, just not perfectly calibrated... but very close.
