what auto trans on 07.5 6.7?

quick question about the auto options on a 07.5 6.7. a friend just bought one and says that the trans is made by Mercedes. is the 68rfe the only auto trans option? would that be considered a Mercedes trans. thanks for any info

The 68re is the only auto trans available for the 6.7 and it is not made by Mercedes.

The 68RFE is built by Chrysler at the Kokomo Plant. It is used in the pickup trucks only.

The Aisin AS68RC is made by Aisin and is the only auto tranny availble in the Dodge Cab & Chassis trucks.

Sorry Blake, you are partial right and the other gentleman is partial correct also. It depends on what you mean by manufactured/designed by Mercedes Benz, if you mean that the transmission is made by Mercedes now than you are correct. If in the early design stages and manufacturing process of the 68RFE than Mercedes Benz was involved.

A design engineer that worked for me in 2008 before I retired use to work for Mercedes/Chrysler corporation at the Kokomo Plant. He was involved in the case manufacturing and he stated that Mercedes redesign the case line and bell-housing for all of Chrysler vehicles to simplify the manufacture process and achieve a cost savings. He also stated that the 68RFE gear set was designed by Mercedes in Germany to improve operating and life targets set forth to achieve lower warranty cost also.

So in my humble opinion the 07.5 MY truck had a transmission designed and built by Mercedes Benz. When Mercedes Benz parted ways with Chrysler that is when Mercedes stop being in the manufacturing process.
