Weird Engine Light
Weird Engine Light
My 07.5 has had a engine light come on for the third time now in about 2000 miles. Funny thing is that it will not show any code and will clear itself after a couple hundered miles. I changed the ccv filter at 68,000 and there is no message on the overhead other than "system ok". Has anyone else seen this? I do drive in town some but also am on the interstate running 70 for atleast and hour everyday also. I use my exhaust brake often. Is this light just telling me I interrupted a regen or something? I am going to remove all that crap in another 10,000 miles so am I hurting anything without taking it in? The truck is completely stock. I am kind of reluctant to take it to the dealer because someone told my there is a new flash that will prevent any tuner/programmer from being used on the truck.
Thanks for any advice-

I'm not sure about any "new" flash preventing a programmer. I heard of that a while back, which was true at the time, and the Smarty (and others) has figured a way around this...
I would take it in anyway and make sure this very pricey emmisions crap is in tip top shape and then delete it...
What are you using the check for code? If there is a light coming on then there is something wrong and the computer is telling you this. I bet it is emmisions related. Are you clearing out the light when it comes on? Or is going off by itself?

They have went off on its on. I was checking for codes by turning the switch on and off three times- leaving on after the third time but it shows nothing, just the milage. Am I missing something?
You should invest in a cheap code reader. These trucks are so expensive to begin with, it only makes sense. And it will work with your other OBD2 vehicles most likely.
Just got back from my local dealer. The code is "P0541- Intake Air Heater Control Circuit 1 Low" Is this something I can fix myself? I assume this is not a warranty fix. (At least the dealer said its not)
Thanks

So you know, all the codes are here in the sticky at the beginning of this forum https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...e-t242541.html
Yes, that is what this code says. Not sure why it would not be a warantee item unless you're out of your warantee.

could be a bad relay or the wires to the relay are shorted. I have seen them short out under the right side battery. You could remove the right side inner wheel well and check the wires under the battery. I have seen them get pinched between the wheel well and the battery holder.
Talked to the dealer again today- They say its not a warranty item. ***- Why do they try to cheat people when we pay so much for a vehicle. I live in NC- Any good dealers around that anyone has had experience with. I have been dealing with a Concord dealer.
