Water in fuel

I don't post to much but I couldn't resist asking this question. Poor guy over on rv.net had his injector pump taken out of his 2011 Ford PSD from water I guess
http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fu...pging/1/page/1

I don't seem to hear many problems with the Cummins or DMAX with water issues in the fuel system. Seems the PSD 6.4 also have problems with the fuel system.
Anyone had any $12k repair bills for water in the fuel system?
What brand of IP does the Cummins use?

My 6 year old 5.9 has never had these issues, just trying to make sure I don't down the road.
Thanks for any advice
Rick

The discussion in the thread seems to indicate that there was no water, just an excuse for the somewhat less compentent dealer to try and recover costs. I haven't seen a single drop of water since I started driving diesels four years ago.

This has been going on with every brand. It started when the went to the HPCR fuel systems. You will see issues like this from people with Fords, Chevy, and Dodge. Don't kid yourself, every brand has had a many a folk with this issue and warranty rejection. My thoughts are these. If they are going to try and deny my warranty anyway I might as well upgrade the fuel filtering of the truck. They won't stand behind the warranty, so the heck with them.

Thanks for your post and thread on this Rick. I gotta say, that is one LONG thread over on RV Net!!

As Spooler already said, there are issues like that with all of diesel brands.

Rick, you asked about whether any of us had $12K repair bills for water in the fuel system. About a year ago, I filled my 1996 Dodge CTD 12 valve up with diesel fuel at a eastern N.C. gas station by the name of "Go-Gas." Well, to make a long story short, that fuel was about HALF WATER!! I got about two miles down the road when my "water in fuel" light came on and the truck started running rough. I knew immediately what it was and fortunately have a 180 GPH FASS fuel pump. I had a buddy come by and we drained out almost all of it and then I added a BUNCH of "Stanadyne" Lubricity Formula and Performance Formula which I run all the time in my truck. I ended up draining and cleaning my tank and then flushed out as much of my fuel system as I could. I ended up having to service two of my injectors but fortunately, that was all. I can tell you that if that water had gone into my 2006 CR like that, I would probably have been in trouble. The new electronic injectors are much more sensitive to water than the old mechanical 12 valve injectors.

BTW,.....you asked which IP our CR Trucks use. It is the Bosch CP-3 Rick.
