Putting truck to bed for Winter
Putting truck to bed for Winter
I use my truck to tow my horse trailer. Not much use here in Western New York From December 1st to April 1st. Here is my question
My mileage with one last trip will be just under 30,000 and I want to add a Mag Tec tranny pan and do a tranny service. Would you do it before winter and let it sit for months or do it in the Spring just before hauling season starts???

My inclination would be to go ahead and change it before Winter. That way the transmission would be sitting with fresh fluid, free of any moisture or anything corrosive. Same goes for the engine oil. I would also consider starting the truck about once a month and cycle the transmission between reverse and drive a couple of times just to keep things oiled. Fresh coolant might not be a bad idea also.
I have put my 05 away every winter like Gatorama says. Run it every month, drive it around in the barn and get it up to temp. Never unhook the batteries, still factory ones. Just make sure you have winter fuel in it. And yes do the trans now so it has new fluid for the winter sleep.
Pirate, I have been in Virginia when it snows. NOT A PRETTY PICTURE. An inch falls and the radio and TV people sound like it is the end of the world. Oh and by the way, most can not drive in snow to save their lives!
Although I appreciate the offer to keep my truck warm I think I will keep it here in the COLD north.
