voltage jumping up and down

My voltage on my 07 3500 4x4 6.7 is jumping from 8 t0 16 amps. I drove about 75 miles at night it looked like i was flashing my lights from bright to dim for an hour or so I took to the dealer and they said they cant duplicate the problem " who'd a thunk it" it does it all the time now. figured id wait till whatever totaly broke so the dealear coul find the problem....anyone else had this issue.

Sounds like the grid heater cycling. Where are you located?

Did you allow the truck to warm up a few minutes before taking off?

I live in New Mexico. It was happining early fall when it was in the mid 60's but it is doing it more now that it is the mid 30's. I figure a 70 mile drive would be enough to warm pretty much everything up.

If it's the grid heaters, they are malfunctioning.

the grid heaters will do this dodge does have a reflash for the system that is supposed to ensure this only happens when the truck needs it. i got mine reflashed and it does it alot less now but its still -10 and below here. also your truck will also go into the high idle if its under 25 outside it will automaticly run up to 1k rpm so PJ my tuck does that on its own for me

It sounds like the grid heaters cycling. Your volt meter will drop from around 14 to 8 or so volts like you say but it should stop it after you get over about 18~20 mph.
