victory against Chrysler, goodbye 6.7L

got a call from my lawyer with some good news:

Chrysler has agreed to repurchase your truck for the full purchase price minus $0.10/mile applicable only to miles between the purchase date and the date the claim was filed.
which is like 500 miles. which is like $50.

summary of problems:

'07.5 Ram 2500 6.7L purchased new 10/07
  • MIL came on shortly thereafter
  • noticed fuel economy was about 75% worse than my 5.9L, hmm this thing doesn't go very far on a tank
  • took it in for MIL a few times, no fix
  • called lawyer
  • noticed I didn't have any brake lights, bad switch
  • new switch installed incorrectly
  • pulled over for no brake lights/fix it ticket
  • fuel economy sucks, ran it hard and towed heavy to break it in
  • fuel economy got worse, hand calculated average 7.7MPG at 5,000 miles
  • took it in for MIL a few more times, ECM flashed total of 3 times
  • still no brake lights
  • noticed whine and vibration from transmission at idle, problem with throwout bearing/flywheel, they told me it was fine
  • exhaust brake surging, they told me it was fine
  • total of 11 trips back for MIL, they put in writing they don't know how to fix it, final nail in the coffin

this has been an uphill battle. can't wait to get back in a 5.9L. miss it like a long lost friend. it was fun being a beta tester. I will never drive a 6.7L again unless they are giving them away for free with free fuel for life

now comes the mad dash to strip it. off to the garage.

Amazing!!

Weird, how some such as mine have run flawlessly, and it gets between 15.5 and 19.5 miles per gallon..........all the time not towing. Towing is a little less, but that's expected.

Glad to see you got your issues resolved, and hopefully the rest of us will not have to go down the path you did!

Hate to hear about someone having so much trouble with these new trucks. Glad it worked out for you though. The tranny trouble you describe sounds like the same trouble I had. The dealer ended up replacing the tranny in my truck with a new one.
It's the only problem I've had with it though, in fact it's only now going in for the new O2 senser and ecm update. Hopefully if decide to try another new dodge you will be as happy with it as I think most of us are with ours.

Boy, I feel good now about the truck I just ordered.

I'm already scared to drive it and it won't be delivered till April.

There ain't NO WAY I'm selling my good old 12 valve '97.

I'll be holding on to her till she looks like she belongs outside of Fred Flintstone's house.

I won't go so far as to say this was a unique experience, but a lot of it was dealer complacency. most of the things could have been fixed right the first time. not going to defend the 6.7L but I don't want to see anyone discouraged about their new truck before they get it.

#1 and #2 biggest problems were fuel economy and the constant MIL, thermostat rationality code which usually appeared following warm to cold temperature changes. if I could afford to put fuel in it I might have waited for a fix for this code.
