turbo problems!

Just got truck back from the dealer. The turbo went blew up for the second time in 8000 mi. The cummins tech said they processed 30 turbos monday and 40 on tuesday they expect to process that many everyday this week, so expect problems in the future. They aren't sure what the problem is. Also replaced the egr and particulate filter twice.

I just called two dealers close to me and they have not had any 6.7's back for turbo problems and both said the only thing they have done with the new 6.7's are the re-flashing. I don't think they would have any reason to lie about it and they did check with other service writers to make sure. The Dealers here in Boerne and San Antonio sell a lot of Dodge diesels because of the ranches near by. I would say that here in Boerne that Dodge may even out sell Ford and GM as you see many of them on the road. I hope they can get your truck back on the road quickly. Good luck and have a good Labor Day.

Lots of posts about blown turbos on all the forums. Even a few where not only the turbo vanes were baked, but also instances of melted pistons.... I'm thinking that the system is failing to go into regen and the exhaust is getting plugged without notifying the operator either (maybe even a stuck X brake?).
I'm curious to know if any of the owners that had these failures were monitoring EGTs, which might enlighten the operator that something is wrong before it is too late...

Speaking of the stuck X brake, when mine is turned off in the cab, I'll descent down a hill and I swear I can here it a little bit or is that just my exhaust itself? It's so hard to tell because the motor is a lot quieter than my cousins 5.9...Does your 6.7 sound that way a little?

to me it sounds a lot different when it is off vs on... there has been a point when the rpms were very low where i questioned it though, but not at highway spd.

I ve noticed this as well, and also noticed a delay in the exhaust brake disengauging when i'm on the power, and one time I was warming up the truck at high idle, with the x brake on and the intake noise was really loud, I had a high turbo noise at 1000rpm shut off the x brake and it went away, turned it on again and the noise was back, went inside for 10 min and we i came back out the noise was gone, very weird, but I loved the sound of the turbo at idle when it was doing this though.
