Transmission filter

Transmission filter

I am thinking of running a bypass transmission filter. I am gonna go with a baldwin B164 or B50. It is 15 micron absolute which should be plenty for a transmission I think. Now I was planning on using the test port on the trans as a supply of ATF:

Now will this supply enough ATF for a filter?

Any thoughts?

Did not know that ATF flowed out of a test port. I think you would be better off putting it inline with the trans fluid line that goes out to the bottom of the radiator.

i think if you use a test port, you will lose pressure where it's needed.
i would plumb it in the cooler line

Yeah I am going to do that. I am not a huge fan of cutting lines but I don't think I have a choice. I am still planning on running a bypass filter not a full flow. I am run a pair of Ts at the end of the return hose and at the return port. At the end of the return hose most of the fluid will head back to the trans via a 1/2" pushlock fitting with some going through a 1/2 to 1/8 bushing(s) to the bypass filter and returning to the T fitting on the trans where the rest of the fluid is headed...what do you think?

I recall a post from a trans re-builder who states its not a very good idea to install external filter on Dodge trans, IIRC he stated that it can/will lower line pressure thus cause problems.
