GENO's Manual Transmission Filter Kit??
GENO's Manual Transmission Filter Kit??
Is anyone running the GENO's Manual Transmission Filter kit? I'll be changing my transmission fluid soon and was wondering if anyone is using this kit.
What about the gaskets on the PTO covers, if I don't use the filter, could I still use the gaskets rather than the RTV sealant?
Thanks

I'm not running it - didn't see the need. Kind of like holding a fishing net in the water and hoping the fish will swim into it.
Change the fluid and clean the magnet once in a while.

I dont know for sure but the analogy that bulabula used is just about what I thought when I first saw the kit. Great analogy !! I dont have one and I dont think I will.
I have a question about the magnet. I changed my fluid recently and did not see a magnet. Can someone tell me where it is? I removed the drivers side cover plate and did not see a magnet. I had my hand in the bottom under the gears to slosh out the oil that could not drain but did not feel or see a magnet.

Well I think the analogy would be better said if it was a stream with a current and the net was positioned allow water to flow through it. It raises your odds of catching a fish somewhat, maybe not much.
In other words I doubt the oil is just pooling in the tranny with all those gears spinning.

The magnet is not where you can see it unless you are a lot more flexible than I am. It is about 1" square and about an 1/8" thick. Think flexible refrigerator magnet. If you reach in to the tranny from the drivers side PTO cover you will feel it.

RTV is better than the cork gasket that is supplied with the filter.
I would even put the RTV up against the paper gasket.
RTV when used correctly does not leak.
I have not had the same results with premade gaskets.

I would agree RTV is best. I used it with no leak problem. Clean both surfaces well, I even used lacquer thinner to remove all oily residue, before the new RTV application. I used to think that gaskets and gasket materal with RTV were better but I'm starting to like RTV alone.
I ran one for a while. I figured any filtration at all is better than nothing. The filter definately got dirty and had minute specs of metal in it. Not sure it really helped but who knows. I took it off though when I installed the Fastcoolers on my trans.
