Talk me out of a chevy.
Im looking for an 08' 3500 4x4 dually. I just drove a chevy and the truck is awsome. trans and motor feel so strong. The looks, im not so hot about but I think I can live with them. My problem is im a dodge fan. Im just worried after going through one trans. / my current truck I dont want to have the same w/ a new dodge. 80% of the time im pulling a 12-15k trailer. I run the truck hard. I know things break I just want the most out of my money. Those with the new dodges please chime in. How does the truck handle itself w/ a heavy load. motor/ trans? Im looking to buy an auto as well. Thanks. Please Help me decide??
Just buy a GMC instead and have the looks fixed all at the same time.
No really - they are a good product these days, and with the Chevy you have no choice but an automatic anymore.
It's you're $$$$$, and this is America - buy what you like.

You cant go wrong with a 08 dodge with a 6.7 and the new 68re 6 speed trans with exhaust brake.
My dad has one and he wouldnt own another truck. Pulls his huge fifth wheel like its not even there.
Nick.

I really like my dodge but man those GM dually s are pretty slick looking. I just cant get past how extremely nice the interior of those trucks are. Overall I really like the new GM dually s, I would buy one if the wallet would let me. Good luck

yeah really slick looking especially that exhaust that sticks out 3 feet lol dodge all the way no independent front suspension for me no way especially towing. all big rigs tow with an inline motor! WOW i could had a V8 NOT !
Dodge has the Cummins, do you need more?? I drove all three before making my decision. I drove an auto Ferd and a manual Ferd, both very gutless on the low end. Nice truck if it had an engine. Couldn't find a manual Duramax so just drove the Allison. Sorry but again I was not impressed with the power delivery. The turning radius of the Cheby was also a factor. You can't turn them around in a 40 acre field! That left me to one brand but it was a really hard decision between auto and manual. Now I would probably go with the Dodge and the 68re auto. When I bought mine I was worried about the first year trans and all the problems my dad has had with his 07 5.9 auto. The new 68re is absolutely awesome and so far not many mechanical problems. I had not driven any of the competition since 97 so I really wanted to give them a chance this time. Dodge still rules!
Yep,
Really hard to talk you out of the Chevy since alot of it revolves around your personal preference. Me, I don't like the IFS or the looks of the rear fender wells. However, fuel mileage and motor I do like. Like most said, you are the one putting the money down, so ultimately it is your choice....

If you look over on the Chevy site, they're not doing all that hot on mileage either. I average 17-17.5 with my 6.7 doing 80% highway/20% stop and go driving.
I pulled my 11K toy hauler to Vegas and back (several loooong 4-6% grades) with the cruise on and never dropped more than 5 mph going uphill. The 68RFE has been a great trans so far. Dave Goerend says the gear train is a monster.
Towing mileage sucks (8-10 on the overhead), but that was with only 2k miles on the truck. I'm at 12K now, we'll have to see if it's gotten any better.

I know I'm gonna regret this....Naw, I'm not. If you have to ask , after owning a 3rd gen CTD, and after towing something relatively heavy , buy the Chevy. You are obviously Brand X curious and need to satisfy this craving. Once you have committed your money, and sanity to this farce you will soon realize you had the right answer the first time. Besides , someones got to buy them things... Just not me!(no offence) Once you drive the 6 spd auto 6.7 with the Exhaust brake , and Tow haul with a load on , try to remember why you started this thread. If you can.
