Chevy has the EFI LIVE programs that easily do away with the regen and no codes.

If I HAD to buy a brand new diesel truck right now, I personally would have a hard time not buying a Dmax, but of course I haven't been shopping so I don't know the deals. When I bought my Dodge part of the reason was it was a lot less $$$ than the others at the time. If that is still the case I might go Dodge. But at the same $$ I would look hard at a Chevy. My Bro In Law's 07.5 Dmax is a really nice truck and is easier on fuel than my 04.5. But he doesn't have 35"s either. And his is ext cab not crew cab.

I still have a hard time with V8 diesels...just doesn't seem right....but the Dmax is pretty well proven to be a good engine.

Well Strjock81:

I just went through this exercise. Traded in a 2005 Avalanche with 28,000 miles excellent condition and bought a $50,400 sticker 2008 Dodge MegaCab for $3000 less that a 2007 Dmax $46200 sticker and $7000 less than a 2008 DMax $48400 sticker.

I really wanted a DMax and you'd think Chevy would give me a better trade in than Dodge but the Dodge dealer actually gave $2500 more than any Chevy dealer for the Avalanche and the above quotes represent the cheapest Chevy dealer at which I've purchased 3 other vehicles.

No brainer for me and I'm very haapy with the Dodge so far.

Mike

Mikerp, I agree w/ you. When looking at the trucks. Chevy was by far the most expensive truck. I tried 6 diffrent dealers, none would play very much, the dodge on the other hand gave me the best price. At this time though Im going to keep what Ive got and build it to the hill

When I read posts regarding the inflexibility of pricing on GM vehicles it helps me to understand how the worlds largest automaker can still lose $38.7 Billion in 2007...a new record! Pricing strategy is all but a piece of the puzzle but holy cow.

No joke.

When I was shopping around during the middle of last year Chevy would come off of the sticker price somewhere between $1000-$2000 dollars.

I'd go to the Dodge Dealers and they are willing to negotiate upwards of $10,000 off the sticker price.

Buying a Dodge was a no brainer for me.

I think I'm gonna shoot myself in the foot the next time I see a "talk me out of xxx" thread. All of the trucks have their pluses and minuses, and the fact that you're heavily considering the truck has to mean something, right? Go with your gut.

I'd buy the Dmax, they just seem to have the emission thing working better and the Allison is the best. Plus unless you can deal with a short bed and get a mega the room in a quad stinks.

I know a guy who works for a GM dealer and he has told me the Allison trans has it set of problems too. So don't buy one just because it has an Allison trans in it they break just like the Dodge trans do.

Whoa I'm surprised at how may folks on here would buy a D/A for their next truck. I bought my 2nd Dodge because of how well my first one treated me. I had an 03 2500HD and it always had small problems that would just drive me crazy and spent a lot more time in the shop then both my Dodges. As far as the new diesel emissions go I don't think that GM as a better system than Cummins does go spend some time at there site lots of problems with leaks, limp modes, throwing various codes, and lots of the D/A folks have removed their DPF because of problems. I think the GM and Ford are both nice trucks but not any better then the Dodge IMO.

Couldn't have said it better than myself. At least not until Dodge get the new Rams out, then Dodge will be better. they are going to be great.

If Dodge can afford to give 7 to 10k off the sticker price how bad are they breaking it off in us?

If you need a real back seat then the Chev would get the nod there. There's lots of complaints on the Dodge interior uncomfortable seats, bad blend door, window pillers too wide, etc.

I don't know about the Chevs interior but they have always been ahead of the rest. Yes they are ugly but I don't think too much of look of my truck either.

I drove an 08 Dodge I gotta tell you it was real nice I'm a stick shift guy but I'd buy the auto in that truck.

I don't go to the GM sites but do you need to replace the lift pump on those when you drive it off the lot? Maybe that's fixed on the 6.7 motor.

There is no lift pump on a Duramax. The lift pump problems on 5.9L's for the most part went away with the in tank lift pump. Fun stuff changing your fuel filter on a for or chevy and not being able to refill the housing. Or let it sit for awhile in freezing cold weather and see how well she starts (if at all).

all the oem's have their problems right now and all of them have their little advantages (although none as big as the integrated exhaust brake (IMO). pick an oem and deal with whatever it may do or not do. maybe you'll get a good one, maybe you won't. personally, I'm done ordering new trucks. I'll be researching on sites like this first, then test driving one close to what I want on a dealer's lot before giving any money.

Real back seat in the Chevy? Their crew cab is almost as small as the QC. Ford has a nice rear seating area and the MC which I love has the best interior cab space. The Chevy is very small and has no answer for more space so I'm not sure what you mean by that statement. I have heard very little complaints about the QC's and MC's which you stated above but if you like the GM go buy it it's a nice truck. The interiors are nicer in the Chevy but I'm perfectly fine with the Dodge and the Cummins is the best engine of the bunch and most honest GM folk will agree.
