Synthetic Oils bad for DPF?
My Dad 07 6.7 is in the shop, again, for the DPF being 100% clogged again.
A mechanic my Dad spoke to told him that synthetic motor oils prevent the emissions systems from working properly.
I personally think the mechanic is just stuck in the old school thinking of petroleum and 3k miles intervals.
Plus, I dont see what oil would have to do with emissions. Fuel and fuel additives yes, but not oil.
But, I figured Id ask on here anyhow to see if ya'll have heard anything similar.

This is right. Oil does have something to do with it. Needs to be low ash, hence the new CJ-4 rating. Has nothing to do with synthetics though. After deteling you can run whatever oil rating you kind find such as CI-4.

Yeah, he's been running Amsoil cj4 since the first oil change. I figured it was the mechanic talking out his butt.
My dads truck has had the particulate filter clog on him once and it all had to be replace at a cost of $2000, but it was still under warranty.
Now the truck has 120K and no longer under warranty, the particulate filter has clogged again and is sitting in a dealership awaiting the "highly trained rocket surgeons" to figure it out.
So far theyve told us that the computer will not send the PDF into regen so that it can burn all its soot off. They are tying to tweak the computer to burn that off so they dont have to replace the pdf again.
Any have any tips for us or for the mechanics?
The truck is an 07.5. Im THIS close to talking Dad into deleting the truck but he at least wants it to be running as it should before he begins to pull stuff off of it.

He's out of warranty, if they are going to charge him anything have him spend the money on deletes.
CI oil will plug a DPF, but as long its the CJ flavor he's good. Tell the mechanic to take a peak in the owners manual and see the a synthetic 5w-40 is one of the recommended oils.
