Strange noise?
I have noticed if I don't drive my truck everyday it will make a funny squel/binding noise when I start it for the first time. It only happens the first start after it is cold. It sounds like something is stopping. It is hard to explain. it happens right after the truck lights off, almost when you let your hand off the key. I am pretty sure it not the starter because it sounds like it comes from the front of the truck. Any ideas?
I've heard the same exact thing and under the same circumstances you describe. My guess is that the variable position nozzle on the VGT turbo/exhaust brake has "relaxed" into an open position. As soon as the engine starts, you have the exhaust pressure hitting the nozzle and the computer also telling the turbo what position the nozzle should be in. The VGT nozzle then slams into place and that is what I think the noise is.
Especially if it is cool outside, the ECM would be telling the exhaust brake to close as part of the warm up sequence and from a cold start, it could be making this noise when it closes.
Thats my guess. Unless it gets worse I'm not losing any sleep over it. If it really is a defect then eventually it will get bad enough that I can show it to the dealer and they'll get it fixed under warranty.

Its good to here that I am not the only one! My truck has been awesome so far, so I guess I am just being paranoid because of all the horror stories. mtn trucker explained It well. As long as it doesn't get worse I won't worry about it. Thanks for the input
