Son of a Gun!
Son of a Gun!
So I was looking for some new shoes, (tires), and I currently have Nitto terra grapplers which are 305/50/20's. They look like street tires, not real fond of them. They were on the truck when I bought it about 3 months ago. Well me and the DW are looking at getting a fifth wheel to replace our TT, and thought well, we need to get some E rated tires, so I started doing some searching and its hard to find something for 20"s, not to mention expensive. Anywho, I looked a little closer to my rims over the weekend, and on the inside of the rim there is a stamp that says 65 psi max. Son of a Gun! So does that mean my rims cant hold an E rated tire which are mostly maxed at 80 psi? . So do I need new rims also? Thanks
Thats odd that 8 lug wheels would only be rated at 65psi. I would think the 5 and 6 lug wheels would be rated to that. Should be rated to 80psi.
Anyways do you tow alot??? Or just the TT?

I thought that said Eagle Allies....
You know, as in he created a military alliance with a bird of prey in a joint effort to subdue the bird who crapped on his truck.

I have E rated Toyo M/T's in 20" wheel size (35x12.5x20). They are rated at 65psi max and I've never had an issue with them except when I wrote the check... They are spendy.
I pull a 29ft travel trailer that weighs about 10k.

Thats funny Blake, but I have peregrine falcons for the birds that crapped on my truck. They are much faster and hit the birds like a Randy Johnson fast ball.Anyway the Eagle Alloys are rated at 3420#s, and I was surprised to see this stamp on the inside of the rim which said 65 psi max. I since then e-mailed the company with this question with no reply yet. I have been pricing tires and was thinking of 305/55/20's just to fill the wheel well a little better. Toyo open country's are around 1388, bfgs are around 1500, toyo muds are around 1550, or I could go with a different size altogether. I'm just not sure. I do know that I would like to have an E rated tire for hauling a Fifth wheel. Right now were towing around (a lot) a 30' TT which weighs in at around 8000#'s The Fifth wheel were looking has a GVWR at around 11000#'s. I also know that I want a tire to fill the well, not some weenie wheels, street truck looking tires. The rear axle on the truck is rated at 6010#'s. I know this is my decision on what looks good, maybe if those of you with 20's could post pics if you have time that would be awsome to help in my decision. Thanks, Sam

No Problem Sammy, here are a few shots of mine.

Sans stackus...

Next to the Worm's '10

Thats 35's Open Country MT's
Got right at 12k on em and they are just starting to show any signs of wear.
FYI Dad put a set of BFG KM2's at the same time I did, he has a tad over 11000 on em, and they look about half worn. They pull good but he is really unimpressed with the milage. He cant wait to get a set of Toyos on his truck

Nope, Cheap they are not, but I do find myself offroading for work quite often and they (Mud Terrains, on this truck and prior) have saved my rear end from sleeping on a right of way more than once.
For me they are pretty much a need, not just a want.

i'm also buying a fifth wheel.one thing you may want to consider in your tire hunting is bed rail clearance.it look's like my 285 toyo m/t's are not gonna give me the 6 inches that's required for not hitting the bedside.i have a fairly substantial dip going into my driveway.other's have gotten by with 35's with no problem.it kinda depends on your situation.i'm going to go back to stock height.just may be something more to think about.by the way.iv'e hauled a 4k slide in camper for several thousand miles including a yellowstone trip with 80lbs in my toyo's with no problems.
