"see dealer now" no codes

I am getting a message in the over-head console digital display.

Service Required
See Dealer Now

i have a code reader and there are no codes shown. Is this something major? I haven't had the truck long enough to know.

07 cab and chassis 6.7. EGR stuff removed by PO, Smarty box on it.

thanks
jeff

It is most likely for oil change. Mine is on right now. Hopefully I will get time to change this weekend. After you change oil turn key just before it starts and pump gas pedal 3 time and that will clear the message.

It could also be the reminder to change the Crankcase filter on the top/backside of the head/valve cover... What's the mileage?

crank case filter was changed at 60xxx ish miles. i have 94000. dealer says it is a reset on their end, and that just resetting the truck with the brake/gas pedal may not keep it cleared.

but running a programmer, he said it may continue to come back. I don't want to spend $94 and have the same warning keep coming back. He also said it isn't hurting the truck to keep driving it either. The Crank Case Filter doesn't have a sensor on it, it is simply a mileage reminder.

i also have to plug in the smarty and go back to stock, then do the reset, then go back to a program. With no EGR stuff, i can't leave it on stock.

If you want to clear codes, all you have to do is hook up the smarty, and to the DTC code routine of reading codes.. It will may say no codes stored, just select clear codes and you are good to go. No need to reload the software every time.

I would reset the available timers per the procedure and see if that makes it go away. Also the latest version of the ME software is supposed to help out with some wayward codes.

I tried the clearing codes on the smarty, but there is no engine light on, so i guess the smarty doesn't see what is happening. the warning I am getting is in the console above the rear view. smarty says no codes thrown.

is the newer software available from smarty as a download or do you have to send the unit back? i got the box with the truck so I'm not sure how it all works.

the smarty does not see any codes because there are none. you will have to remove the smarty from the truck (return it to stock programming wise) and then follow the clearing procedure in the link that I posted above, then reload the smarty. problem solved. also replace the CCV filter while your at it. its easy to do

There is a firmware update for the Smarty that will resolve this. It isn't noted in the change logs, but I saw a user post that updating resolved this issue.

Using the Smarty and doing the clear code procedure will also remove the warning, even though there are no codes present.

CCV condition can be checked with a scan tool by monitoring various readings. Also, running a restricted air filter can load a CCV filter long before the 60K service interval.

I got the same messages on mine, I then upgraded the firmware from V23 to 24 on the smarty jr. and it went away.
