Unhappy ram 2500 died

well never thought i would say this but my 04 ram 2500 died on me getting onto the highway the other day. had to have it towed. that was a sad sight, broke my heart. the truck is throwing out code 0628 which seems to be the lift pump. the truck cranks but will not start but cranks good. had all kinds of power then it just fell flat on its face, no warning or anything at all. anybody have any suggestions? also just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

How many miles? I replaced mine at about 86k miles (I think). I was a PITA. I had to get another piece of fuel line with quick connectors, so if it fails on the road, I'll be able to replace the "new" LP with the original (which worked fine when removed).

Depending on your build date and mileage, you may still get out of this OK. The Cummins emissions warranty covers the lift pump for 5 years/100K miles.

My lift pump went at 81900 with the camper in tow and several hours from home. It went from full power to nothing, just like yours. The in-tank lift pump conversion was done under warranty. After getting stranded for four days in a less than scenic campground, I wish that I had spent the money on a Raptor 100 or FASS HPFP before the stock lift pump left us on the side of the road. On the positive side, my truck gets better mileage and seems to have more power with the in-tank pump.

No, and the next time you have a LP go dead, you will have to drop the tank.

Sorry, warranty or not, they ain't doing that to my truck. At least with the engine mounted pump, you could change it along side the road.

That's a "VP" prob.....not a "CP" prob. You now have a very reliable truck in my experiences.

while you are at it put a piece of split spagetti cover over the wire at the a/c compressor. when my pump went at 83k,was replaced under warrenty, two/three day later engine stall and code for CPK thrown, moved wire and all cleared up, so i installed spaghetti shield, and all is ok now 96k
