Probably the worst question

I have an 07 Mega with the 6.7 & 6 sp tranny. last week i couldnt bear to swallow the $900+ charge od the dealer for a 60k service, i bought all the necessary oil and filters to do the job myself. I looked through the owners manual to find the quantity of oil necessary. Either it doesnt list the amount of oil for the tranny, or i wasnt able to find it, so i called the dlr, they told me 7qts. after running the truck i check the tranny oil and it reads high on the stick. is 7qts the correct amount or should i be using less?

thanks

Reading it in neutral hot on level ground? If you are...and its over, you may have only dumped 4-5 quarts removing the pan. Maybe someone else will chime in. You may have to dump some oil and I think there is a way to suck/evacuate it from the dip tube.

I use this site for all of my capacities of fluids required for the truck. The site is an Amsoil web site; http://www.amsoil.com/mygarage/vehiclelookup.aspx
Type in the model year of truck then push the enter key. On the LH side pick dodge trucks then 6.7L engine. On the RH side at the bottom will be the Fluid capacities for the truck. I used 9.5 Quarts for my transmission refill, this included 2.5 quarts for my deeper pan.

7 quarts sounds right.

I did the mag hytec on my truck yesterday and it took me 10, and the mag hytec is supposed to hold 2-3 over stock.

I would trust the dipstick when the proper procedure is being used to check it though.

Never did understand why they dont make a factory tranny pan with a drain plug....
