Paraffin Smell Normal?

I have a new Dodge 3500 RAM SLT with the 6.7 CTD. There are only a little over 300 miles on the vehicle. After shutting the vehicle off and exiting I notice a pronounced smell of paraffin (like a candle burning). Coincidentally, there are a few drops of some liquid on the driveway. Possibly these are related. What do you think? The truck runs very well otherwise.

My truck smelled goofy as well when I exited it does still sometime. Seems to be strongest between the bed and the cap. Not sure what it is either. Thought it might has been some release agents or something burning off the new exhaust.???

There are all kinds of things burning off a new motor. Fingerprints, machining fluids, release agents etc etc. Don't sweat it. Now, if you are leaking something...may want to take a look at that. Are you sure it wasn't just AC water?

I'm sure it isn't coolant because the drops don't evaporate. It's gotta be oil or something similar. It's not a big leak, just a few little spots. Of course, I'll have the dealer look at it after the holiday.

If they are still using the same clamp and set up, check the coolant line near the turbo...The 06's are notorious for leaking at that clamp from the factory. I thought mine was oil because it had a brownish tinge to it, never suspected coolant. I took it in and sure enough it was that clamp.

I noticed a parafin like smell when my truck was new also. I park on gravel so I never saw what could have been a leak or leaking. I could not seem to locate it, was under it looking at stuff trying to see anything, nothing leaking anywhere. I could smell it stronger when I opened the hood. The smell went away after I changed the oil the first time. So, I figure it must have been something break-in related.

Thanks for the info. I'll run that past the people at the dealership. Hopefully that's all it is....
