oil smell

My father-in-law just took ownership of a 2003 dually with the new Cummins. I have it for the week (one hell of a truck I must say) to outfit it. I have noticed that there is a subtle smell of oil at stop lights. The truck only has 460 miles and we were both thinking that the smell may be due to the engine breaking in. Does anyone have any ideas? ???

Re:oil smell

I have a draft tube in place of the stock "drip bottle". No more smell. And it's always funny to have people in little cars looking under my truck to see where the smoke is coming from.

I don't care where it goes, just as long as it isn't in the cab!

Dave

Re:oil smell

If you look straight down in the front of the engine behind the fan, you would see a hose and a bottle attached at the end of it, if that's what they are still using... [undecided]

Re:oil smell

just checked and didn't see anything. The only lines up there are for the power steering and radiator overflow.

Re:oil smell

It might be gone, Those are the 1st stages of the EGR motors.
See if theses any lines going to the airbox, exhaust or valve cover. or better yet the might have done the updated side entry right into the bottom of the intake manifold behind the lift pump, if thats still in the same place?
Danny
