oil required

09, 2500, 6.7 engine

I have the overhead telling me that I need to change the oil. This happened after only 2000 miles from last change. Truck has 26K miles on it and never a problem. I ran rotella up to 18k and than went to amsoil. What do guys think could cause this ?
all miles are highway and hauling a$#
Any body getting better than 17 mpg at 80mph ?
thanks for you replys

Did you reset the oil change reminder after the last change? Hate to ask the obvious, but...

If you're getting 17 mpg at 80 mph, you're doing well....

these things calculate oil change by combustion cycle events. more city driving the more often you have to change it, the more highway driving the less often and so on. the problem with these things is the dpf going into regen tosses a monkey wrench into the calculations. like KLX said above, did you reset the light after last oil change. has to be manually reset as the computer don't know when you change it.

oil reset

I'm not sure about resetting the change. Last time I changed the oil I did not get a notice to do so. By resetting do you mean doing the key "on" and pushing the gas pedal down 3-4 times and turning off the key. I did that today and the problem went away for now. Thanks for your inputs.

My change oil alert comes on about every 4800 miles so far, given my driving conditions (70% highway, 30% in town). I can't get over 18 mpg on the highway.

With the cold weather most idle their trucks more. This gives more engine time without the miles racking up. I also notice more trailering causes frequent oil change requirements. I have seen 3k to 6K depending on driving conditions and load. I have long advocated, but never practiced that oil change intervals should be tied to gallons of fuel instead of miles. This would adjust for load and idling.

I agree, the interval should be linked to fuel burned or hours, not miles.

I've towed for 90% with my trucks miles and had to change at 4800.

I pay no attention to the damned light, cancel it when it comes on and change the oil and filter every 10,000 kms. These stupid oil change reminder things are a curse and fall into the same category as the tire pressure monitors. In this part of the world there is no rhyme no reason as to why they are even there.
