Oil change required message with 2327 miles?

Just got my 6.7 3 weeks ago and as of today I have 2327 miles on it. Well... the oil change required message came up on the overhead today? This truck so far has ONLY seen USLD put into the tank. I'm just curious as to why at such an odd mileage would the oil change required message pop up?

The oil change light is not base solely on mileage. The computer uses various inputs such as mileage, hours, speed, starts, etc. to determine when the oil should be changed.

My first change oil light came on at around 3500 miles. I did an oil analysis. It was still good. I changed the oil at 4700 miles when the truck was in for a new turbo. 1600 miles later the light comes on! Checked again with oil analysis and it was still good. I'm going to go my the maintenance interval in the owner's manual.

You can reset the light by turning the ignition to run (not started) and push the gas pedal to the floor three times quickly.

It is based soley on mileage. 7500miles mine came on. I had already changed the oil when I purchased the truck at 500miles and then again at 5000miles. I will change mine every 5000 from here on out, one because I'm **** and two its easier to track. If it did take the orther various inputs into account, how is it that your oil analysis show more life to the oil?

The overhead used with the 6.7L engine is not based on mileage alone. I uses other inputs such as the ones I mentioned to "guess" when the oil needs to be changed. I did the oil analysis to see if the computer was guessing correctly. It was not. My oil had plenty of life left according to the oil analysis when the change oil light came on.

Like you, I will use the maintenance schedule in the owner's manual because the overhead change reminder is not accurate.

Oil analysis looks at oil viscosity, and metals in the oil, and contaminates in the oil, when oil viscosity starts to break down than it's time for a oil change, and when the metals in the oil reach high enough level than it's time to look for the failing part in the engine.

I put valvoline synthetic in mine when the "change engine oil" display came on at 2900 miles. I think with the synthetic, I should be able to go by the schedule in the owners manual. I wonder if that display gets fixed with the new flash we get with the latest recall????

I wonder If mine even works I have 11000km or 7000mi and I havn't seen that message yet.
TRUEBLUEINBAK the oil change interval should be reached IMO with the mineral oil, and longer on the synthetic but the owner of the truck in the end makes the call to change the oil, and I would not recommend going over the interval milage due to possible warrenty issues. When my dealer starts to stock synthetic for the 6.7 I think I will use it because of how low the temps get here

if it is like the GM software, it goes by Combustion Cycle Events. IF you do more in town driving, the "idiot" light will come on as soon as 2500 miles, highway/city driving up to 5000 miles, nothing but highway up to 10,000 miles.

Well, In my experience, in my vehicle which has 8500 miles on it, I have had the message come on 3 times. I would also say the 7000 miles of the 8500 are highway miles. I changed the oil at 5000 miles, when the light came on. I used mobil - 1 synthetic. It came on again at 7500 miles. I figure synthetic should be good for more than 2500 miles, especially with absolutely no towing and mostly freeway driving.

have to manually reset the light. computer don't know when it has been changed.

I did reset the light. I figured it was just an idiot light and did no real oil analysis.I will see if it comes on at 10,000.

Mine came on at 1800 miles, mixed city and highway driving, I checked the oil and reset the light. Actually changed the oil at 3500 when I replaced my turbo. The oil that comes with it is break in oil, and now I'm going to change it out every 5000.
