oil filter worries

I changed my oil for the first time this past weekend at 7000 miles on the truck. when i put the new oil filter on it only screwed on about one and a half turns before it was tight enough to need a filter wrench. thinking i may have started it wrong i took it back off and made sure the gasket wasnt still on the filter housing and tried it again with the same results. I tried the old filter and it was the same way so i put the new one on and tightened it down. even with a strap wrench it only turned aprroximately two to two and a half turns from start to tight. anyone else notice that their oil filter doesnt srew on the nipple very much.

Mine spins alot before it's snug. Maybe a different oil filter housing on the VP motors than on the CR motors? And I NEVER use a wrench to tighen it. Just hand grip tight. It doesn't leak. And removing is just a hand tight job away.

same factor filter#? If not, you could of received the wrong one which has a different thread size and/or for a completely different motor.

When I change my filter, it seems like it makes a full 7-8 turns before the gasket touches. 3/4 turn after contact and it wont leak.

Something is wrong... I would make sure you have the correct part... if the OEM filter wont go on fully now I would say the threads may be messed up....thou hopefully not, but if you forced it with a filter wrench it could be very jacked up.

Check the length of the threaded portion on your oil filter base on the engine. It may be threaded in too far.

You Double gasketed it....
I see gaskets stick to the block from the factory installed filters all the time... I am in that business....
Get it fixed now.... Or you will blow out and loose all of you oil in about 15 seconds.
Guaranty you don't want to be looking under your hood on the side of the road... Thinking.... "Ahhhh... What tha.!!!!!"

no double gasket, i checked that first thing. the filter that i put on was an oem filter exactly the same as the one that i took off. the threads arent messed up and i didnt crossthread the filter when i started it. i believe that jkitterman had the right idea about the nipple being threaded in the filter housing to far.

I would just do a warranty call on it. You may have to get an oil housing or something.
