O2 sensor insulation

In the process of changing out my ailing turbo, I had to remove the insulation rapped around the exhaust pipe where the O2 sensor is. It is my understanding that this was a "fix" to keep the sensor hotter. In my case, the insulation was rotten and the collected moisture was well on the way to rotting off the pipe. Did this "fix" actually help, and do I need to redo the insulation?

The engineers say it was needed but I have seen many trucks without it. You can get wrap at auto parts store or go to dealership and get new and approved blanket if you are still under warranty. If not they are pricey but reusable.

Thanks BigIron70. The whole installation looked like one of those "let's try this" kind of things, and I really don't want my DPF to fall off until I am ready for it to. (hopefully pretty soon) In the mean time, I think I will run it without unless I start having O2 sensor issues. Warranty ran out about 30k ago, so if i really need to rewrap it, the auto supply stuff will be fine.

Use only compressed air when cleaning 02 sensors and put a little anti seize on threads. Clean EGR valve also if 02 sensors are sooting up on you.
