Question Under Hood insulation

Anyone know what's up with the underhood insulation/noise pad on the 2004 3500 5.9L ? I do not have one and I went to the dealer and was told no such thing..parts dept. said the same.
Today I looked under the hood of a 2004.5 2500 5.9L and lo and behold there one is Any body help?

I was disapointed in the exact same thing. Since this is my first diesel I didn't think it was going to make to big a difference sound wise.

The salesman always sold those mats as "fire protection"(in case of fire, the plugs melt, the mat drops) seeins' a diesel isn't as explosive maybe it's not needed.

Was the 5.9l a Hemi?

Just got one last week for my 03.

The (hood pad) silencer part number is 55365043aa List $79.70
The retaining clip number is 6504135 (x 12) List $.35 ea

Edit to add: Yes, it made a noticable reduction of in cab engine noise!

JIP!! I noticed that as soon as I got my truck (saw the mat on a friends 2002) I'm going to the dealer tommarow to get a new insturment pnl. put in under warranty(long story, no big deal) when I'm there I'll find out how much it is to get the insulation and retaining plugs. I'll let you know.

Awww, come on. You guys mean to tell me that the salesman at the dealerships are not all knowing, straight from church type of guys.

I must admit, I am gullible 'cause I been thinking that was the truth.

Talk to guys later, I gotta go Snipe huntin'.....where is that paper bag.

You know I cannot remember if I saw it here or the "other" Dodge site. I thought that there was a thread that mentioned that the insulation pad was Standard on the Laramie but not the lower trim levels.

If I run across it again I will post a link.

Can someone explain what is involved with installing the underhood insulation.

It sure sounds like something I want to install on my truck.

the holes for the pop in fasteners are already drilled, you just hold the foam/fiber mat in place and pop in (I think 12) plastic retainers. Probably take you 5 minutes. Its already got a hole cut in the liner for the underhood light to.
