No more Cummins in '09?
I heard from one of my customers this AM that Ford will be using Cummins in '09 and they will not be available for Dodge because Ford now owns the engine mfg. Anyone else heard this?

Ford doesn't own Cummins!
Keep in mind that Ford already uses Cummins in it's F450 & F550's You can also get them with a CAT. So if Ford uses Cummins in 2009 what does it change from current as they already do.

I can chime in on something else.
TOYOTA is about in announce there new HD tundra which will include DRW and NO CAT MOTOR. Sorry folks, deal didnt go through. But For all you peeps who dont know, toyota has there industrial division that has been making diesels for many decades. Cant wait to see the specs of that bad boy!!!!!

U cant also get a cummins in a big rig. Like frieghtliner, peterbilt, and stuff like that. But they are not the 6.7's. Stock they carry a tq rating of 1000-1200. Hows that for a motor. Plus alot cheaper to rebuild then a cat

As stated earlier, Ford once owned a small percentage of Cummins back in the '90s, but is no longer the case. Also, '450s and '550s were never sold with Cummins engines, only the '650s and '750s.

Isn't Cummins making or going to make a smaller diesel, maybe they already do?? That could be the engine of reference for the Fords. We know that Ford IS having tons of problems regarding the future of the current engine they ARE using at this time, and Ford already has said a new engine will be in the future.
You CAN get a Cummins in the 450's, 550's, 750's etc, those are being put into custom aftermarket trucks as special orders. There are several custom haulers assemblers offering the Cummins engines.
It IS true that at one time Ford did own about 10%, but that was some time ago.
Many of the other auto/truck manufacturers are offering diesels in their european sales, I expect diesel availability to happen in those sold in the US over the next few years. Almost seems as though the test markets take place in Europe first, so I would watch those markets to see what engines etc become used there, then not too much later we will see them here.

Geez why wont this question ever die? The guys at F*rd must be having a ball putting this sheet up.
I had an N14 in a Freightshaker for years. They're built like iron, was used by the Army and probably why Cummins dumped it.
There's nothing new about Toyota having serious diesels. I remember driving a LandCruiser in Caracas, sometime in the late 80's-early 90's with a V8 diesel in it. Back then diesel was cheap $0.04/liter
