new turbo questons
new turbo questons
After having the 2262 to many times to count and a lose of EB funtionality I had my turbo replaced with a remaufactured unit. Wanted new but extended warrenty only paid for a reman.
My question regards exhaust brake strength. It doesen't seem to give full braking potential. Should the tech have used the scan tool to set the "travel" correctly? Does anybody have a procedure list for putting in a new/reman unit? Also where is boost measure on the 6.7?
Thanks for the insight.

Really, not a single thought on whether a turbo install requires setting the VGT for proper travel. It would seem logical that if there is not proper travel the "braking" force wouldn't be sufficient.
Unless the ECU reads pressure hence my question regard where boost pressure/back pressure(?) is measured. If the boost sensor is anything like the MAP sensor it needs to be cleaned at some point?
Please can't someone shed some light on this situation. Thanks,

The ECU will control the EB function with the exhaust back pressure sensor located near the thermostat on the head with tubing to the exhaust manifold. It will close throttle the exhaust turbine to maintain a setpoint for the exhaust pressure. The travel specs of the new turbo may or may not be adjustable as its hard parts in there that move. Could be slight differences, but the travel of the EB may slightly different.
Thanks Lil dog...I removed back pressure sensor and cleaded it but it didn't make a difference. I think I received a unit that will not close completely. If I recall, when my old turbo EB was working it had 2 "power" settings based on engine speed. It would start out mildly and then kick into a more agressive braking feel
This unit only comes on slightly and bairly slows the truck down

Looking at the way that is set up with the pipe going to the exhaust pressure sensor, I suspect that the pipe might clog up with soot after a while. Plan to take mine off and blow some air through it if it ever stops raining. Maybe...just maybe, this might be the reason my turbo is acting strangely. One can hope anyway. Still drivable if I don't use the ebrake, but fuel economy has dropped 1-2 mpg in the last two weeks, driving the same trip 5 days per week.

there is a pre-alignment/self calibration done thru the witech (chrysler scan tool). that is the only adjustment and its not much of an adjustment. it checks the travel of the slide/actuator for full travel. it is a pass/fail type check. if it fails, then they replace the turbo

I just returned from a 1500 mile trip towing about 8000#'s and the EB funtionality was so limited I almost flew through a stop sign at end of ramp. Scarry, as I was so used to the amazing power of a "working" exhaust brake that not having one really took me by suprise! No wonder I've never changed brake pads and have 105,000 miles on them. I miss my EB.
I've also noticed that I'm loosing a bit of coolent as the level is dropping in expansion tank AND I blow blue smoke on start-up. And yes my oil level is dropping as well.
Now the games begin in getting Dave Smith to warrenty the remanufactured turbo and pay for labor to put in another one

if you had it done at a dealer, there is a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty. should not be a problem if its the turbo and not something else causing the EB to not engage.
