New turbo??? IDK.

I have a 2008 dodge 6.7 cummins with 137000 on it. I am the second owner as far as I know and have put probably 13000 mile on it since I have had it. About a month after I bought it started acting up. I would start it and it would idle terrible. Almost like it wanted to die then kinda rev back up it would throw a check engine light with this as well. It also would do this at stop lights I would accelerate and it would go but almost seemed like my exhaust brake was on or the turbo wasn't spooling I would keep it floored then all of sudden boom it would take off and throw some smoke. I have had it at the dealer 5 times with sensors being replaced and a new DPF filter out on and still no luck. At this point I think might just replace the turbo. Any thoughts?? The dealer cleaned the turbo as well. I don't now what to do. Kinda of tired of this.

What codes is it throwing? if you don't have a scan tool most of your autoparts stores will scan it for free.

I did the deal where you turn the key 3 times to get codes when I had a check engine light on and it was throwing none.

Ever heard of this happening with low fuel levels? I filled up and it has stopped. Maybe they are related. I thought this before too. Gets down to about a 1/4 tank left and does it. Any thought????

You need to use a scanner to see all the codes....if it is setting off the check engine light it is throwing codes.

I don't know about low fuel issues like that, ever since the late 90's when I realized about half of the fuel supply being moved by the lift pump was flowing back out of the injection pump to keep it cool (heat soak) I never go much under a half a tank...the fuel gets warmer the less you have in the tank and limits the ability to cool the IP.

Now that is not as important in your truck as it was in the 24v 2nd gens...but still I think it is a good idea none the less.

Get a scanner put on that thing

Any thoughts. Do I need to do this EGR delete everyone is talking about?? I don't want to get in to deep deleting everything but if stops me from having to get my turbo cleaned every 100 miles ill do it.

I had the same code. Dealer finally said new turbo. I took a 100 mile trip EB on and varied the speed all the way, I used the cruise control ran it up to 70 let it run down to 60 then hit resume, next morning no code all is good. Just to make sure I unplugged the EGR valve. I have 88K and am the original owner right now it is mostly stock but that will change shortly.

You need to run with the exhaust brake on all the time......by keeping the brake on it keeps the variable geometry vanes moving and prevents the soot from building up around them negating the majority turbo cleaning issues.
