Did they tell you whether the new turbo was improved or fixed compared the old one? Also, could you tell that the truck actually ran better or was the only difference the fact that the CEL is out? How long did it take them to do the work?

I'm pretty sure I'll be joining the new turbo club pretty soon so I'm trying to learn about it.

I had a new turbo installed a few months ago (now have about 18k miles). There was no difference in operation as far as I could tell but the new turbo did get rid of that infamous code (I think it was P2262). Now I occasionally get a code related to an O2 sensor but I just erase it with my code reader and I'm good to go for several weeks. I just don't feel like taking it back to the dealer at this time. I don't mind erasing the CEL every few weeks...takes only a few moments.

Is the turbo the problem or electronics connected to it?

Dale K- i dont know if the turbo is fixed or improved, the only difference i can tell is that the jake-brake works better i.e.(stays on instead of cuttin out). And it took the dealer 4 days to do the work(but, 2 of them the truck just sat there)

Coolbreeze- The problem is the electronics

Can you be more descriptive about the exhaust brake before and after. I may have a problem with mine because it cuts out sometimes. Feels like it happens during gear changes on the auto trans.

For example, it will feel pretty strong down to about 40 mph, then it's like there is no exhaut brake, then it kicks in again a little bit around 30 mph.

i just put one on a truck they are the same exact one that the trucks come out with. after having a good conversation with the star center who you have to contact to get authorization to replace these turbos the problem is not in the electronics it is simply the housings sooting up where the sliding ring for the vgt moves causing it to not move freely. they are not too bad to put on it took me right at 4 hours without the special tool for the nuts as ours is broken at the moment. with that tool i would say i could have one changed in 2.5-3 hours.

armourbl, that is the way it is designed to work. If you switch to 5th or 4th gear it will work better. It must be designed that way to save the transmission, I think...

Yes, the braking will not happen when the torque converter is unlocked. Having that amount of braking horsepower motoring the powertrain causes excessive heat to build in the trans, leading to failure.

There are other things that will cause the braking to cut out, such as engine speed too low, vehicle speed too low, loss of traction (ABS), any commanded throttle other than 0%, and others.

I agree with Redline Ram 100%

Mine does that too. It kicks in strong, then at around 1800 rpm's seems to lose about half its compression, then below 1500 rpm's picks it back up again. I figured it was "normal".
