New member with a question?

Greetings!

I've been visiting this site for a few months while researching my new truck purchase. A thanks to all the members posting here as this site helped with my purchase.
I have a 2007 2500 w/ 5.9L & G56 and am loving it. Not sure this is the right forum, but the mods can move it if needed. Anyway on to the question.

Looking in the owners manual on jacking up the front of the truck, it looks like
you place the jack under the mount for the lower control arm (think that's what its called).

My question is -- Is that the right spot and can you use a floor jack?

I'll do the signature thing when I figure it out. Sorry for the long post.

Thanks,
Joe

fill out your signature....what do you have 2wd, 4wd??

2wd jack under the coil spring cradle

4wd under the axle

its a HEAVY MOTOR ...things will bend...lack under a strong 'un breakable' surface... and CONGRATS ON YOUR NEW RIDE

you might want to have the dealer do your 1st oil change...the filter can be real tough the first change...also I would STRONGLY recommend fleetguard 'STRATAPORE' oil filter 'they are OUTSTANDING !'

Belgianmagic,

Thanks for the reply. I figured out the signature thing.
Anyways, its a 4x4. I read somewhere the 5.9L weights like 1100lbs.

So, a strong lift point is needed. The front passenger side isn't a problem,
there's plenty of room for the jack and then the stand beside it. The drivers side causes concern as there is space for a jack stand and thats about it. Maybe the jack that comes with the truck would jack under the axle and leave room for the stand, but I haven't even pulled it out yet

Oh yea, this site guided me to Genos and I bought 2 of their 4-2-1 kits with stratapore filters. Yea, the original filter was tight but a cap wrench, some sweating, and patience paid off and she came off - without busting knuckles, spilling oil everywhere, or tearing up the filter!

You are lucky if you got through your first oil change with all the skin left in tact on your knuckles. Many have tried, most have.............purchased bandages. Welcome to DTR!

Thanks,

Yea I read (on DTR i think) about clearcoating the engine and was like ????.
So I attacked the filter prearmed. It didn't want to move at first, but a few light taps (with the head of the ratchet) on the sides and bottom and some tense moments before it starting moving and BAM it was off without a drop spilled.

Course, I wasn't 100% ready for how fast the oil pan drained. It almost overflowed the drain pan, then I took the cap off the opening that you empty it with and it kinda equalized and didn't flood the garage! I've since enlarged the hole in the pan so it takes oil faster.

I'm doing my first oil change next weekend and didn't know about this but I've been known to use the old "screwdriver method" of removing stubborn oil filters in the past If there's enough room in there..

Hey , when you take your oil filter off LOOK INSIDE... they are not full so only fill the new one 3/4 of the way so you don't have too much oil in the pan...
I change my filter monthly and did NOT notice that til I saw my oil level was high

Any other thoughts on lifting the front driver side? Just want to be prepared when I hit 10k and rotate the tires. Oh yea I have (4) 3-ton jack stands so keeping it in the air is easy, getting it there may be interesting :-)

It will probably come down to getting under the truck and looking and where the jack can go so the stand can go under the axle? I like using the floor jack but if the factory jack fits better I'll pull it out and see how it fits.

Cheers
