Mpg???
Thanks for the info.
Well since I high jacked the thread I'll get it back on track. My truck is stock except for Luverne stainless steel running boards and a bed rug. I bought it to tow my SunnyBrook fifth wheel and I am delighted with the performance so far.
It has so much power that I can't imagine needing more. I'm getting 17 - 18 open road driving (country roads at 60 to 65). So far I have not driven it on the interstate solo enough to check it. On my last camping trip (650 miles of towing) I got 10.8 hand calculated. I have not weighed the rig yet but the factory list the dry weight at almost 12000. I think this is pretty good mpg towing. I have less than 5000 miles on the clock and I know it will get better as it "ages".
Also if I could just keep my foot out of it. So much power. I've already had to "whack" a few rice burners and I know that doesn't help the mileage.

As you research this site and others, just keep in mind that there are so many variables than can change by 2 MPG. In flat country running into a 10 MpH wind will have a negative effect, as will running over 60. I can fill up at the same station rellying on the cut off at the pump and gain or lose 2 MPG. That is why you must use common sense when reading posted claims. I love synthetice oils, but have never seen an increase. Some proven things that work: advanced injector timing, max air in tires, cut down on drag, accelerate slowly and keep injectors clean.
Bone stock!! It was a running beast!! Very quick, but alas after 200k miles it just started falling apart and I was replacing things 2x. Cost me a lot of repairs after hitting the 200k mile mark, mostly the Dodge wrapper and left me stranded 3x. All my profits were going back into truck repairs so it got traded for the 07.5 in my sig.
Well I was very pleasantly suprised at the fuel pump on this last trip to Louisanna.... 418 miles and stopped to fill up with 23 gallons (not stopping at first click actually added about another 3/4 gallon) Equals out to 18.18 MPG hand Calculated.. WOO HOO...... I could have made it into the 600 mile club but was in the middle of nowhere and didn't want to get stranded so I filled up early...
I agree with the post about the mileage and cost of the truck! if you are worried about the mileage buy a VW! I have to have something that will pull and if that means lower mileage, so be it! Tried 2005, 2003 Dodges with the 5.9, 6.4 powerJOKE and dura
and NONE with haul like my 6.7 does! Yeah as far as just driving, I would have the last of the 5.9's.
My new truck is a 07 3500 quad cab-n-chassis, 6.7, the good 6 speed auto, engine brake, CM HUALER BED! Bought to pull my TRAILS WEST 4 horse trailer with slide out living quarters, midtack and an empty weight of 10,700lbs and after all equipment and 4 horses the trailer hits the scales at right around 16-k lbs! YES, mileage is not great, but this truck OUT PULLS the 2003 and 2005 Dodge 3500 that I had before. This truck loaded with trailer in tow/haul at 70 or under I get 12.4 to 13.0 per overhead and hand. Over 70mph 11 all day long. Truck empty will get around 15 at or under 70mph, anything over 70mph, it get 12!

My 01 Dodge Cummins got awesome MPG, and the 03 Dodge Cummins I had did pretty good too. My 06 5.9 doesn't get near what the other dodges did, and I'm a bit upset about it. Use to be that you could get better MPG with a 3/4 ton diesel than a halfton gasser, doesn't seem like it anymore.
I'm not interested in diesels anymore if they just get worse on MPG every year.
