Personally I could give a crap what the fuel mileage is!!! "It is what it is"

If I didn't like it, I would not of bought it! And if I bought it, and don't like the fuel mileage, I would sell it.....................

You must have had the golden truck, my '05 on its best got 16mpg bone stock, and is now in the 14/15mpg range after the Edge/lift/tires, etc

If I could easily put a 12valve/nv4500 in my truck, I would, I miss the 22mpg+ days....

My 04.5/5.9L/Auto dually used to consistently get over 20 m.p.g. @ 75 m.p.h. too!! It was pretty quick for a 8k lb. truck. Those were the days, huh??!! The 07.5/6.7L/Auto is quick AND powerfull but at a cost - 15.5 m.p.g. at any speed over 65 m.p.h. The price of progress and a cleaner environment I guess.

I wish that was the case. The new emissions stuff only gets rid of the soot, then it pollutes more with worse gas mileage. stupid politicians. if u want to help the environment make all vehicles diesel

I don't know what we did when we hooked up the starscan to enable high idle, and enable fog/hibeam but my truck is a two-lane road fuel sipper now. I had never seen the overhead above 17.6 and that was with the stock tires. Then it seemed to run between 1.5 and 2 mpg high. Hand calculated was almost always 14.7 mpg. We corrected for some of the tire height diff. but have not figured out how to get it closer. My speedo is still 6% slow which is better than the 12% it was. When at 12% slow the overhead read about 1 mpg LOWer than it was hand calc.
To the point, the overhead registered 21.6 mpg from driving both ways on a 29 mile trip on two lane country highway with lots and lots of hills and curves(typical WV road). I drove it 100 miles mainly on the interstate yesterday and the mileage dropped to 15.8 but I was in a hurry!! I got back on the two lane road then and drove another 50 some miles and it has settled in at 18.2. I can't wait to fill up (not that I am anxious to pay 3.39 a gal) and see what it really got. The overhead should be close now since it was high, then bigger tires it was low, now I am inbetween so it should be close. I'll take 18 mpg with the driving I did. The 97 would get about 19 mpg on that trip!

my 08 just returned 14.75 mpg in local driving. the lowest mileage i've seen is 14.26 mpg and the highest 14.92 mpg. the engine only has 3000 miles on it. so far i'm happy. these were all calculated by hand.

Did you have anything done to your 04.5 or was it just one of those trucks?

I shouldn't highjack this thread but , I guess you did ask..........the dealer, through the use of the starscan tool can enable the high beams, low beams, and fog lights to all be on at the same time when you put the selector in high beam mode................they can do all kinds of stuff with that tool , and they can do it remotely with a laptop too..............tech told me that while they were learning about the starscan , the instructor got a guy wet with the windshield washer , when he wasn't paying attention..........they can hook up and test just one electrical component at a time, i.e.....window motors, door locks or whatever.
