Exclamation Military discount on new truck

My brother is in Iraq and should be coming home in a few months. He was thinking of buying a new truck and was offered the following (military discount) deal:

2008 3500, CC, AT, Laramie, sunroof, 4x4, power rear sliding window, power pedals, leather, etc. (every option. It’s on a 4 page build sheet).

The quote is $40,900.00 total.

What do you guys think? I thought that was kind of high, but I have not priced a new truck.

BTW, A loaded Chevy (diesel) was $39,000.00

Thanks for any and all responses.

I've been there twice and that shack he's sitting in pricing these trucks is actually a darn good deal. But, at the same time, you can get a good deal here to if you start a war with two local dearlerships. I don't think he'll regret it if he goes through with it but, grass is alway's greener on the other side you know?

I told him he should also consider and old 3rd gen like mine. He can find one for high teens, low 20's if he looks long enough.

I'm going to check at least one dealership tomorrow and see what they're selling their loaded trucks for.

Not to bash the 6.7's, but seems like it's hit-or-miss on getting good fuel mileage out of one. I told my brother he needs to test drive one, not get one built.

I don't know what he'll do. I kind of like my "old" truck and have no plans on trading it.

Well I took my old truck from a dually to the SRW it is now b/c i wanted a sport laramie with a manual and the only ones made are dually's. And now, I want a short bed... And I figure if i want a SWB i should get and 04.5 or 05 while i'm at it. I SRW'd it, then lifted it on 20s and 35" nitto muds, then got mad about that and just sold it all to go back to stock on saturday. I just can't win with myself. I never know what I want for more than about 10 minutes... haha

I think you can count on at least 10K or more under MSRP depending what the Dodge incentives are at the time of purchase. I got an official quote from Dave Smith that worked out to about that.

Ask him if he's going through the Military Auto Source program. That program has some pretty good pricing and some other incentives such as taking delivery where he wants....namely a state that doesn't charge sales tax i.e. Oregon. I almost did that myself last summer when I deployed, but ultimately got my best pricing by getting a 2007 late in the year. I paid $34,000 for mine, which was better than the Auto Source pricing. Just gotta price around.

I priced what I wanted while I was in Iraq and waited until I got home. I saved about 6ooo dollars after I actually went to buy it. Just food for thought.
