Lost teeth on the oil pump!
Well, the company truck i used to drive went down (2007.5 1ton 4wd straight cab, 6spd man, 6.7 engine. 5 teeth broke off the oil pump in the front engine cover. lost oil pressure and no power. just had all 6 injectors replaced with only 145,000 miles. always had fresh fuel, and fuel filter allways changed at 5000 miles. dont know why the injectors would go out so quick? mechanic said its because we tow so much with it? anywhere 3 to 6 days a week; 15,300 is the light load which is probably 80% of time to 21,000lbs the rest of the time. any one tow that regular and have injectors start going out that quick? or heard of the gear loosing teeth off the oil pump? anyhoo, boss sold it in auction, wants to go back to a 7.3 ford. he has a 2000 with just under 257,000 miles and other than new turbo, up pipes and exhaust manifolds, and new tranny, thats all hes done to it. its ok, just doesnt pull as good as the goat did.

I am guessing the injectors went because of ULSD fuel. Almost no lubrication with ULSD unless you use a biodiesel blend or put in an additive.
7.3 Ford is not a bad engine, but I have seen plenty of those with problems too. My FD has an 2003 Ford van chassis that is a med vehicle with the 7.3. It has 211K miles and we have dumped $8000 in repairs in the last year. Oil pump, water pump, front cover replaced. We have 2 leaking injectors. The shop we take it to said it will be around $1800 to replace them all.

Ponder me this then, my 02 in my signature has almost 200 thousand miles, and knock on wood no injector problems. and i know that all makes will have problems eventually. it just happened that we had egr, turbo, 6 injectors, clutch (changed to southbend), front pan hard bar and steering stabilzer, mass sensor, a sensor on the fuel rail, and something else im forgetting all went out in the last two years. when you add up the dang near $12,000 in repairs and labor plus the lost down time in my productivity not having the truck up and running, i can see why the boss wants to make a change. i dont know. well see what i end up driving in the near future.
