leak
leak
hello everybody, im bob and have been searching for a forum for a problem that im having with my 2004 2500 4dr 5.9l diesel. it seams that the people who have posted on here have been the smartest so far so i have a question for all the experts out there.
the truck is leaking antifreeze from the bottom of what looks like the transmission dust cover. i have replaced the water pump already today and to my surprise it still leaks so im at my wits end here and any information that yall might have will be greatly appreciated.

Howdy, Bob.
You need to find where that leak is coming from. It could be a freeze plug, heater core hose, heater core, head gasket... it could be a lot of things.
I would get a little engine degreaser and spray off the back of the motor really good, then get it up to temp and look around. Where it is dripping down at may not be where it is coming from, it may be traveling down the engine compartment a bit.

A good place to start : Heater Hoses
Madhat nailed it on the "dripping from here but leaking from somewhere else".
On my 94 manual, I have been seeing antifreeze puddles for a while now. I had the truck up in the air a few times and could see antifreeze on the bottom of the engine adapter right where I can look in and see the flywheel a bit. I believe this is where the trans/TC cover is on autos. Two weeks ago I took the trans out for some work on the shift tower/ top cover, and while the truck is on the lift, I see a steady drip of antifreeze. It was leaking from the hoses that go into the heater core at the firewall. The drip would hit the engine/adapter and travel down the side and onto the ground from the absolute bottom of the bell housing. I could also see drips splashing on the down pipe coming off the turbo. Now that I know it isn't the head gasket, I sleep much better and will fix it soon.
Best of luck on yours. Some jack stands, safety glasses, and a flashlight and you will spot it in no time. Also, make sure the overflow bottle level is up above any potential leaks when you are checking, or they may not leak.

dont know if it the same but i was reading something on the 6.7's leaking from a coolant hose on the backside of the motor by the valve cover due to a defective hose clamp and running down and dripping off the trans inspection plate. hope this helps
Check on the side of the block, exhaust side. You'll see a hose. probably wrapped in foil, worm gear clamped to some metal piping. I tightened mine, and it quit leaking.
thanks for all the advice everybody. im on my out to check a few things. Call me crazy and inexperienced but the only thing that i can think of is that i blew my head gasket. I love My Cummins i wouldnt have any other truck ever. if anybody else thinks of anything else im open to all ideas
And one more Question
I was driving the other day and my hearing is bad from being an active duty Marine, i thought that i heard something like a dog howling under the hood but like i said my hearing is shot and i did not think anything of it. Was that sound the sound of my water pump going out? thanks again everybody
