Launch Shudder question
Launch Shudder question
Hey guys, question about this shudder when driving away from a red light. Truck is a '07 MegaCab, 3500 DRW, 2wd, 2000 miles. This could get long, I'll try my best! This shudder seems to get worse when hauling for longer periods. Trailers are 24' enclosed, with 3000 lb race car, and 27 foot enclosed 3200 lb empty weight, 4 fourwheelers and gear. Both tongue pulls. Dealer says no TSB's for my truck on this, and sends me on my way. I've read that some guys were adding spacers to the carrier bearing to change the driveshaft angle and this is a fix. I spend the morning adding spacers, and it seemed to get worse with more spacing. So I spend the afternoon making a shorter bracket that the carrier bearing bolts to and started raising the carrier bearing. Seemed to help abit, but the shutter is still there on my test runs with trailer. Any suggestions on this, or is this something that just happens to some trucks, and I gotta deal with it?

Mine has had some shudder on launch since I've had it. I can't imagine needing air bags on a 1 ton dually (at least for what I do), but maybe it's worth a shot. I never thought of that.
Mine makes a lot of shudder noise at certain low rpm's when just creeping along too. I can feel the vibration. The dealer always says it's "normal" with these trucks.
It is.....until you put air bags on. I fought one for a couple days adjusting the pinion angle, shimming the hanger bearing. If I made it work good pulling, it would introduce a vibration empty while driving. FINALLY convinced the guy to spring for some bags. Unfortunately it was at his cost, but it works and he's happy now.

There was a TSB on my 03 on launch shudder, and that is what we did, added 1/4" steel plate to the carrier bearing and that solved the problem, but in my case once I was loaded the shudder would go away, how much did you add?

One piece driveshaft seems to fix the problem. I would do this long before I put airbags on.
