hissing sound when i turn

i have a 2008 diesel and when i turn i hear a hissing sound coming from the engine compartment. it gets louder when i accelerate through the turn also. i can only hear it when i turn and it gets louder the longer i drive the truck. i took it to the dealer and they replaced the power steering pump but it did not fix it. i have taken it back 4 more times after that and they dont know what is wrong with it or how to fix it. anyone have any ideas for me or have the same problem? Thanks

Havn't heard of this problem but, try getting someone to turn the wheel while you crawl under and hunt for the problem.

snakes under the hood . . .

I wonder if a fluid swap and proper bleeding of the system would help?

I am not sure though.

Mine's an 04.5, but I posted a similar complaint regarding hissing on turns. However, mine sounds like it's coming from the rear. I was thinking u-joints or the traction control as possibilities.

Ya that's what I thought...had the power steering changed with no fix.....took it back and they did the whole bleeding the lines and it still didn't help. Ya mine does get worse the longer I drive or when the truck warms up. I do have a 4in lift with 35's....not sure if that has anything to do with it

just a quick update... i had a heavy duty steering dampiner installed and the hissing nose seams to have gotten worse. i had it looked at again at the dealer and they are telling me that it is the releave valve on the power steering pump and its normal but i am not buying it.. i dont know why it would do it every time i turn....

If it is the relief valve on the power steering pump then you are at the max pressure of the pump. I can believe this could occur with the heavy duty steering damper and the size of tires on your truck.
You would need to review the steering force required to turn the tires in one direction and then what is the pressure limit on the pump.
As your power steering fluid heats up the fluid will also become more viscus, which means the fluid will become thinner. When this happens the flow of the oil will easily pass through your pump and thus will need more pressure to maintain the proper full out of the pump, to turn your tires. Therefore you will have more relief valve noise.

I think you mean "less" viscous. Pressure is resistance to flow. Flow of the fluid is what provides the movement. The noise, if it is the relief valve, may be due to the large tires and resistence to the flow causing the high pressure.

Mine 08 has done it since new also. I've had the dealer look at it and they found nothing wrong.
